Matthew Perry will star in a reboot of 'The Odd Couple,' as CBS picked up the show for a pilot episode, notes The Hollywood Reporter.

The 'Friends' star will portray the character Oscar Madison in the multi-camera comedy, which was first introduced as a Broadway play, before being adapted into a TV series.

Perry, along with Joe Keenan (Glee), will write the script and be executive producing the upcoming show.

CBS granted the 44 year-old actor a script commitment this past December (2013), and it seems the network was very happy with his production as the show will get a pilot.

The story follows two polar opposite roommates, Felix Unger and Oscar Madison (Perry). Felix is a very clean-cut, uptight and responsible type of character, who works as a photographer at a portrait studio.

However, due to his strict, and boring, way of living, his wife divorced Felix and threw him out of their house. In need of a place to stay, he looks to his childhood friend Oscar for assistance.

But when they become roommates, Felix quickly realizes Oscar's way of living is untidy, messy and very unhealthy, which is the total opposite to him.

Their dynamic relationship, which was first portrayed in Neil Simon's Broadway play, was eventually made into a feature film (1968), before ending up as a TV series. The show, which ran from 170-75, aired on ABC and starred Jack Klugman and Tony Randall.

No other cast members have been announced.

In recent years, Perry has starred in the relatively unsuccessful sitcoms of NBC's 'Go On' and ABC's 'Mr. Sunshine', but unlike these series, 'Odd Couple' being filmed as a multi-camera comedy is the same format Perry used in 'Friends'.

Also executive producing the show will be Eric Tannenbaum and Kim Tannenbaum, as well as Carl Beverly and Sarah Timberman.
