'Friends' Co-Creator Says There Will Never Be A Reunion Movie

Jennifer Aniston Courteney Cox Lisa Kudrow Matt Le Blanc Matthew Perry David Schwimmer

When news that the cast of ‘Friends’ would be reuniting next month broke, many fans of the mega-popular 90s sitcom thought their reunion dreams were finally coming true. But not only is the upcoming ‘Friends’ reunion not really a reunion at all, it’s also definitely not a precursor to a ‘Friends’ movie or even a Netflix-style reboot.

Marta Kauffman‘Friends’ co-creator Marta Kauffman.

The cast of ‘Friends’ (minus Matthew Perry) will all be together for an NBC special on Sunday, February 21st to honour TV director James Burrows. The fivesome will be appearing alongside cast members of other sitcoms that Burrows worked on, however Perry is unable to attend, as he will be working on a play in London.

Matthew Perry Confirms It's A Friends Reunion Minus One

Matthew Perry

Talk of a big Friends reunion got fans of the popular sitcom all over the world excited by the possibility of everyone’s six favourite 30 somethings getting back together. Sadly, one of them has since revealed the reunion isn’t going to be as good as we all hoped.

Matthew PerryMatthew Perry has scuppered the big Friends reunion

Matthew Perry, who used to play sarcastic self-deprecating Chandler Bing, will actually be rehearing for his West End performance when the others are becoming friendly together again.

Matthew Perry To Return To West End Stage In Self-Written Play

Matthew Perry

Former ‘Friends’ star Matthew Perry is set to appear in London’s West End in a new play that he’s written himself.

Entitled ‘The End of Longing’, his new project is set in Los Angeles and concerns “four broken people yearning for love”, and it will see him reunite with director Lindsey Posner for the first time since they worked together on David Mamet’s ‘Sexual Perversity in Chicago’, also in the West End.

Perry’s play will run from February 2nd to May 14th at the Playhouse Theatre, with rehearsals beginning in the new year and other casting details yet to be confirmed.

The One Where Jennifer Aniston Was Replaced: 'Friends' Fan Notices Stand In During Season Nine Episode

Jennifer Aniston David Schwimmer Courteney Cox Lisa Kudrow Matt Le Blanc Matthew Perry

Most of us could probably recite episodes of ‘Friends’ word for word, but one keen-eyed fan has made a startling discovery while revisiting the classic sitcom on Netflix recently. In the season nine episode titled ‘The One With The Mugging’ there’s a split second where Rachel Green is NOT played by Jennifer Aniston and the internet’s mind is blown.

Jennifer AnistonJennifer Aniston played Rachel Green on ‘Friends’ (most of the time).

During one scene in the episode, Joey is enthusiastically ranting about the potential of a monkey also being at his audition, while Rachel stands behind him in a printed shirt. But when the camera pans back that’s not Jennifer Aniston standing behind Matt LeBlanc and she’s not even wearing the same shirt.

Is This Fan's Dark, Alternate Ending For 'Friends' Better Than The Real Thing?

Lisa Kudrow Jennifer Aniston Courteney Cox Matt Le Blanc Matthew Perry

If you’re still mourning the loss of ‘Friends’ after all these years, then one fan’s bizarre (and kind of believable) take on how the sitcom could have ended might give you something to think about. What if 'Friends' hadn’t ended with them all leaving Monica’s apartment? What if all 10 seasons were instead revealed to have happened inside the imagination of Phoebe Buffay, who didn't actually have any friends at all?

Lisa KudrowLisa Kudrow played Phoebe Buffay in the classic sitcom.

Writing on twitter ‘Friends’ fan Gareth Stranks shared his idea for how the show could have bowed out and it quickly went viral, because, well it’s pretty extraordinary. Stranks wrote that he wanted the series to be revealed as the ‘meth-addled fantasy of Phoebe Buffay as she stared through the windows of Central Perk.’

Matthew Perry Is Very Aware He "Will Never Be Involved In Anything As Big As Friends Ever Again"

Matthew Perry first became a television star when he was cast as Chandler Bing on arguably one of the most loved sitcoms of all-time, ‘Friends,’ and even though the final episode aired over a decade ago, it is still finding success.

Matthew Perry
Perry is still astonished at the success of 'Friends'

The 45-year-old actor, along with his five other co-stars, may be the most shocked at how popular ‘Friends’ became, and while attending 2015 TCA Winter Press Tour to promote his new CBS sitcom ‘The Odd Couple,’ he opened up about being part of the iconic show.

Courteney Cox Has Said It, 'Friends' Reunion Is Not Going To Happen

Courteney Cox Lisa Kudrow Matthew Perry Matt Le Blanc David Schwimmer

It must be hard for the former cast members of our favourite 90’s sitcom ‘Friends’. It seems wherever they go and whatever they might be doing now, the big question still is, will there be a 'Friends' reunion? Courteney Cox was the latest victim of the oh so familiar question when she appeared on the ‘Late Show with David Letterman' on Monday. Unsurprisingly the answer was “it’s not going to happen”

Courteney CoxIs a 'Friends' reunion happening? Absolutely not, says Courteney Cox

Whilst it might break the hearts of many ‘Friends’ fans, Courteney did her best on ‘The Late Show’ to try and put the reunion rumors to bed once and for all. When quizzed by the chat show host the actress firmly stated, “it’s not going to happen”. The former Monica also added that if she did say she’d like it to happen then all the other cast members would have to be contacted and told “well Coutneney’s into it” and she just doesn't want to be responsible for that headache.

Lisa Kudrow Fell For Friends Reunion Rumor, Feels Bad For Disappointing Fans

Lisa Kudrow Jennifer Aniston Courteney Cox Matthew Perry Matt Le Blanc David Schwimmer

Friends fans might have had their dreams squashed by NBC adamantly denying any rumours of a reunion, but so did Lisa Kudrow. During her appearance on Conan this week, Kudrow admitted to having fallen for a false report and a rather convincing graphic. In fact, the Friends actress claimed the graphic was so good, that she began wondering why no one at NBC had spoken to her about joining the project.

Lisa Kudrow, EIF Cancer Research Fund
Kudrow herself was fooled by reports.

"Okay, first of all. The graphic for this one thing was unbelievable. It looked really real," Kudrow told Conan O'Brien. "And then they were posting this article and the headline was like, 'NBC Confirms 5 out of 6 of the Friends Are In,' and I went, 'Oh my God. They didn't ask me.'"

Fans of hit U.S comedy Friends (or F.R.I.E.N.D.S because, why not?) were either horrified or gasping with excitement when rumours of a Friends (F.R.. alright fine) movie were bandied around. Hollywood Game Night - A Glorified Game Of Charades?

Jane Lynch Fred Armisen Matthew Perry Kristen Bell Kristin Chenoweth Nick Cannon

At the tail end of her run as Mrs Hannigan in Annie, Jane Lynch is launching her brand new endeavor – Hollywood Game Night. It’s pretty much what it sounds like – a night of party games, banter and lots of competitive spirit. What makes this different to your average Friday night is that on this show, six of the eight contestants are celebrities.

Jane Lynch, Tony Awards
Jane Lynch loves a good game night.

When you have Fred Armisen and Matthew Perry competing in a mutant version of charades, it’s bound to be a funny experience, but what Lynch thinks is so special about this show is that the viewer at home gets to feel like part of the action – especially if they have a drink or two while watching Game Night. When she was asked by TIME Magazine whether contestants should come in caffeinated, Lynch answered: “Or slightly tipsy. Either way” In one promo she even suggests that viewers at home invent a make a drinking game out of watching the show.

Networks To Announce Fall Line-Ups, Will 'CSI:NY,' 'Touch' And 'Go On' Survive?

Kiefer Sutherland Matthew Perry CBS NBC ABC Fox

Crime drama CSI NY, Matthew Perry's 'Go On' and Fox's 'Touch,' starring Kiefer Sutherland are amongst the television shows in danger of being cancelled when the networks announce their fall line-ups in the coming weeks. The clock is very much ticking, and it's getting louder with every passing second.

It's a familiar Hollywood plot, with actors, producers, writers and directors waiting nervously to hear whether their shows have made it onto the fall line-ups. If the ratings are not there, the show disappears. Simple. NBC unveils its plans on Sunday May 12, while Fox announce on Monday, ABC Tuesday and CBS on Wednesday. CW fans have to wait until Thursday for that announcement.

As reported by the Plain Dealer, we already know that Animal Practice, Made in Jersey, Last Resort and The Mob Doctor are getting in, though there are several more high profile shows that are in danger of being handed a pink slip. They include the CBS crime dramas CSI:NY and Criminal Minds. Ratings suggest the latter might survive, but CSI looks to be a goner. A year ago, it was suggested that NY might get cancelled and CSI: Miami could survive though the reverse happened.

Friends Reunion 2014: So, Is It Happening Or Not?

Jennifer Aniston Matthew Perry Courteney Cox David Schwimmer Lisa Kudrow Matt Le Blanc

Speculation that the cast of Friends were ready to reunite for a 2014 reunion reached fever pitch last week. Jennifer Aniston, Matt Le Blanc, Matthew Perry, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, Courteney Cox were apparently ready to commit to another season of a show, with a graphic featuring the Friends 'sofa' and 'The One With the Reunion' began circulating online.

The apparent silence of the key stars only added to the rumors, though Friends creator Marta Kauffman finally spoke up at the Call me Crazy premiere in Los Angeles on Tuesday night (April 16, 2013). "I'm going to clear this up-it's not happening!" she said, deflating the hopes of thousands of Friends fans. "Friends was about that time in your life when your friends are your family and once you have a family, there's no need anymore." Funnily enough, Kauffman said she first learned of the rumor when overhearing some people talking about it at a bar. Nevertheless, representatives for NBC and Warner Bros are yet to comment, though a source at NBC told E! Online the rumor was "not true."

Last year, Aniston - who played Rachel Green in the long-running series - played down a reunion, especially on the big-screen. "I can't imagine how you would do it, unless you did it years from now.I can't imagine what that would be. It's not normal. Friends is in your living room; Friends is not in a movie theater. It doesn't make sense to me. I think it would be going against its authentic self."

Courteney Cox Reunion With Matthew Perry Set For 'Go On'

Courteney Cox Matthew Perry Jennifer Aniston Lisa Kudrow

Courteney Cox's reunion with her F.R.I.E.N.D.S co-star Matthew Perry will air in April, when the actress, 48, appears on an episode of Perry's freshman sitcom Go On. Cox and Perry - who played husband and wife Monica Geller and Chandler Bing on the NBC sitcom - will reunite nine years after the Friends finale in 2004.

Go On focuses on a sports talk radio host (Perry) who finds comfort and several new pals in a support group after his wife's death. Cox will play a new love interest for her former on-screen husband. It's the latest mini-Friends reunion, following Cox's cameo on Lisa Kudrow's Showtime series Web Therapy. Jennifer Aniston and Kudrow have also both appeared on Cox's show Cougar Town. She recently spoke about her 10-year run on the beloved NBC sitcom, telling US Weekly, "I catch reruns of Friends and I don't even remember being there. I'm like, 'That is funny! I'd love to see the rest of the cast," she added, referring to Perry, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer.

Perry has tasted moderate success with Go On, while Matt LeBlanc won acclaim for his BBC series Episodes. Schwimmer remains busy as an actor, producer and director.

Matthew Perry Pokes A Lot Of Fun At Angus T. Jones' Religious Outburst

Angus T. Jones Matthew Perry

What do you do when a well known Hollywood actor denounces his own TV show to the amazement and surprise of both his fans and colleagues? Well, if you're Matthew Perry, you link up with the good people at Funny or Die, and you parody the hell out of is. (Sorry Jones; parody the... heaven out of it?)

"Glancing at the bible has led me realize that my show, Go On, is a complete abomination with terrible morals," jokes Perry, citing some of his favourite Bible stories, which are suspiciously similar to Life of Pi - the book recently adapted to the big screen by Ang Lee. Perry continues to dig the proverbial knife into Jones, as he 'promises' to give all the money back he's earned in Go On and Studio 60, but when someone asks him, "What about Friends?" Perry says, "What, do you think I'm a f**king moron?" The hilarious vid centres on Angus's rather ridiculous denunciation of his own show, while still raking in thousands of dollars per episode. Perry also mocks Jones' speedy apology, by apologizing seconds after in the same video.

Anyway, you should check out the video (below) for one of the funniest parodies going. We're assuming Perry decided to do this for his own, self-serving marketing reasons, so bear that in mind, Angus - while you're entitled to your own beliefs - you really had this coming.

Jennifer Livingston Gets Caribbean Vacation On Ellen

Ellen Degeneres Matthew Perry

Jennifer Livingston, the news anchor that recently accepted a viewer’s apology, after he made some disparaging comments regarding her weight, got a helping hand from Ellen Degeneres, whose show she’s appearing on tonight (October 9, 2012).

According to E! DeGeneres filmed a fake promo for News 8's morning broadcast with Livingston and fill-in sports anchor Matthew Perry, who is also a guest on tonight’s show. "I don't want to talk about sports, I want to talk about Jen and Bill [co-anchor Bill Graul]," said Perry in the faux promo. "You should watch them every weekday morning from 5 to 7 on News 8. Oh, and do I have time to mention my show, Go On?" The show was nearly done, but there was just one more thing for Livingston to read out, though. "This is very exciting," she began, "because the winters in Wisconsin can be so cold and Ellen thinks I deserve a little break, and you are sending me...to the Caribbean for a five-night stay?!" Well, we think you can guess her reaction.

After blasting the viewer, who insulted her about her weight, Jennifer decided to let it all go, saying to TMZ: “I hope people kinda leave him behind and leave him alone,” “I’m in no position to bully her,” Kenneth Krause, the man who made the comments told ABC News. “She’s a big media personality. I’m just a working stiff.”

17 Again Review

Excellent
Zac Efron takes a lot of heat for singing high-pitched tunes and prancing around on basketball courts in the High School Musical movies, but in 17 Again he finally gets to prove that he's more than Disney's poster boy. Here, he plays Mike O'Donnell, a 17-year-old high school senior with a basketball scholarship on the horizon (not exactly a stretch for the actor). When he discovers that his girlfriend, Scarlett, is pregnant, he finds himself having to choose between marrying her and pursuing college athletics. He chooses the girl.

That was back in 1989. Twenty years later, Mike (now Matthew Perry) finds himself regretting some of those choices. He's now in his thirties, and life has fallen apart. He hates his dead-end job and wishes he would have gone to college. His two teenage kids (Michelle Trachtenberg and Sterling Knight) have nothing to do with him, and Scarlett (Leslie Mann) is in the process of divorcing him. All the while, his nerdy best friend, Ned (Thomas Lennon), has become an inventor and has more money than he knows what to do with. If only Mike could turn back the clock.

The Whole Nine Yards Review

Very Good
Let the record state that I expected the worst from The Whole Nine Yards. February release date, the girl from Species (all right, so that was the good part), Bruce Willis (again) attempting comedy. As a Magic Eight Ball would tell us, "outlook not so good."

Let the record also state that, while watching a bad movie, I either carry a scribble pad or make mental notes of possible pot shots that I can shoot off at the movie in my review. Since I am afforded no "possible insult" rating system, I translate the pot shots into stars. For about every ten easy insults a film gives me, I subtract a star from its rating (barring Airplane!, which is designed to cooperate with the pot shot system and thus is immune to its barbs). The Whole Nine Yards gave me thirteen pot shots. Rounding, we get our current star rating.

Bad
Farley and Perry, as powerful a comedic force as, say, Nixon and Hawking. Farley's final movie before he died, and pretty representative of his work on the whole.

Serving Sara Review

Bad
With his painfully dreary performance in Serving Sara, Matthew Perry proves he will never play any character in a movie other than his annoying Chandler Bing from the television series Friends. If I really wanted to watch Perry be Bing, I could find the same comedy routine in this film on daily reruns of the show. And that would be free. And much less of a waste of time.

In Serving Sara, Perry plays a process server named Joe who has a tendency to screw-up the serving of court papers to his clients. But for some reason beyond comprehension, his boss Ray (Cedric the Entertainer) decides to give the next big assignment to Joe. All he needs to do is rush across town to serve divorce papers to Sara Moore (Elizabeth Hurley). Difficult? Of course! When Joe meets the beautiful Sara, she bribes him with a hefty reward to instead serve the divorce papers on her husband Gordon (Bruce Campbell).

The Whole Ten Yards Review

Terrible
The Whole Ten Yards is an awful movie. And yet, as bad as it is, I think I may have learned something from it. According to Bruce Willis's Jimmy Tudeski, every car built since 1985 has a trunk release! Did you know that? Of course, that bit of information may actually be BS. And in the context of this movie, it wouldn't surprise me. This lame sequel to the original hit is about as witless as Jimmy's nutty automotive gibberish.

In the sequel to the sleeper hit The Whole Nine Yards, Jimmy has abandoned his hit-man lifestyle and is enjoying retirement with his new wife Jill (Amanda Peet) in their quiet Baja hideout. He's content sharpening his Martha Stewart homemaking skills by cooking pot roasts, caring for his pet chickens, and cleaning house. But this way of life doesn't work for Jill. She wants to reprise her husband's previous life, and desires nothing more than to shoot a worthy piece of ass. Meanwhile, back in the states, Jimmy's former neighbor, Oz Oseransky (Matthew Perry) has relocated to Los Angeles where his dental practice and marriage to Jimmy's ex-wife Cynthia (Natasha Henstridge) appears to be thriving.

Weak
How will Three to Tango be remembered?

Maybe as another Matthew Perry star vehicle where he doesn't come off as particularly funny? Maybe as another Neve Campbell movie where she sounds whiny and unlikable? Or perhaps it will be as a borderline offensive straight-guy-mistaken-as-gay movie, heavy on the cliches and light on the laughs.

Zero

Seeing several hundred movies a year as I do, every once in a while I'll come across one so insufferably inept from beginning to end that it's actually hard to review, simply because I don't know where to begin.

Should I describe in painful detail the bumbling, double-take-dependent, "Look maw! I'm acting!"-quality performances that lack even a cartoonish level of credible humanity? Should I berate the script that leans on lifeless, "Oh, yeah?!"-style repartee for its hypothetical laughs and fails even to explain adequately the movie's premise? Perhaps the place to start is with the plot holes so large and obvious a marching band might as well be stomping through them in clown clothes, playing a college football fight song on untuned instruments.

"Serving Sara," has all of this and worse -- much worse.

The Whole Nine Yards Review

Good

Congratulations Matthew Perry, for being the second member of the "Friends" cast (after Lisa Kudrow) to find a big screen starring vehicle that's actually funny.

A screwball comedy of compounding complexity, "The Whole Nine Yards" casts Perry as Nicholas "Oz" Oseransky, a miserably married Montreal suburbanite whose nervous nature kicks into overdrive when a mafia turncoat known as Jimmy The Tulip -- a hitman so cool he's played by Bruce Willis -- moves in next door, looking for a little R and R after ratting out the mob.

When Jimmy wants to be pals, it's an offer Oz thinks he'd better not refuse, but he sweats bullets reading Scorsese-movie innuendo into every innocuous thing his neighbor says, like "Let's go for a drive." Yikes!

The Whole Ten Yards Review

Weak

There was one question that kept surfacing in my mind while watching "The Whole Ten Yards," and it wasn't what motivated this superfluous sequel (studio greed) or how anyone can be expected to keep track of all the frivolous loose ends of its disjointed manifold plot (one can't).

The question was this: Why am I even bothering to try?

In an attempt to recapture the cleverly convoluted screwball spirit of "The Whole Nine Yards" -- a 2000 comedy in which a skittish suburban dentist (Matthew Perry) had his life turned upside down when a retired hit man (Bruce Willis) moved in next door -- this overcooked movie becomes a jumble of incoherent storylines that don't converge so much as collide.

Three To Tango Review

Weak

For a romantic comedy with a pilfered plot, one-note personalities and a story outline so obvious a monkey could predict every scene, "Three To Tango" is surprisingly agreeable -- up to a point.

The movie stars "Friends" zinger king Matthew Perry as an architect and consummate kiss-ass who, for the sake of scoring a major project, agrees to babysit the beautiful mistress (Neve Campbell) of a married tycoon (Dylan McDermott), who is afraid of losing his pretty fling's affections to another man.

Except for milk-it-for-cheap-laughs gimmick that McDermott thinks Perry is gay, the plot is almost an act-for-act match of "For Love or Money," a terminally cute 1993 prime-time escape vehicle for Michael J. Fox, who played a Manhattan concierge with dreams of building his own hotel.
