They're probably still nursing their hangovers from Sunday night, but now the Academy Awards are over we have to wonder what’s next for the big Oscar winners? This year’s big five have brought us a bit of a mixed bag when it comes to what we can expect from them in the near future, some are keeping busy while others seem set for some much needed down time.

Cate Blanchett Oscars 2014She won the Oscar but what's next for Cate Blanchett

Cate Blanchett

First up is best actress winner Cate and it looks like she’ll barely have time to sit down after her big Oscars win. First you’ll be able to hear her voice in the upcoming ‘How to Train Your Dragon 2’, which comes out in July, later on in the year she’ll be reprising another role, as Lady Galadriel in the third ‘Hobbit’ instalment. Next year Cate will star in ‘King of Cups’ alongside Christian Bale and Natalie Portman, which is directed by ‘The Thin Red Line’s’ Terrence Malick. A complete departure will then come when she stars in a live action version of Cinderella as the wicked stepmother. She’s also soon to begin work on ‘Carol’, based on the 1952 thriller of the same name and a HBO film ‘Cancer Vixen’ about the cartoonist Marisa Acocella Marchetto, which is directed by Julie Delpy.

Jared Leto

Things are a lot quieter for Jared, who sadly doesn't have any more film work lined up. Instead he’ll be focusing on his band ’30 Seconds to Mars’, who are embarking on a world tour very soon, hitting Russia, Australia and Japan to name a few. Leto’s acting hiatus is not surprising, given that he’s done it before, but lets just hope we don't have to wait as long this time to see him on screen again.

Matthew Mcconaughey

Matthew’s career revival has been dubbed a McConaissance, so he’ll be looking to keep momentum going. His next big screen outing comes in November in Christopher Nolan’s sci-fi movie I'nterstellar', which we’ve already singled out as a possible 2015 Oscar winner. As for the small screen despite the success of ‘True Detective’ Matthew is adamant he’ll not be returning for a second series, (boo).

Lupita Nyong’o

Lupita is certainly the toast of Hollywood at the moment thinks to her performance in ’12 Years A Slave’ and the actress can be currently seen in cinemas starring in ‘Non Stop’ alongside Liam Neeson. However Lupita’s diary is now free, with no movies on the horizon. We can only guess that she’s looking at offers carefully before choosing her next big role.

Alfonso Cuarón

After winning the best director award for ‘Gravity’, Alfonso is turning his camera to the small screen. He is currently working on ‘Believe’ a sci-fi series due to premiere on NBC next week. Cuaron co-created the series alongside Mark Friedman and will serve as executive producer alongside directing the pilot. The show centres on a young girl who was born with special powers whose protectors turn to a death row inmate for help. It stars Jake McLaughlin and Kyle MacLachlan.
