Movie hunk Matthew Mcconaughey insists upon taking holidays in his trailer - because life on the road helps him appreciate the luxuries of Hollywood.

The actor fears many of his pampered peers take their charmed lives for granted, and so he hits the road in his beloved Airstream trailer to enjoy the rough life in between movie projects.

He says, "I dig my Four Seasons (hotel) but I like the fancy sheets more, I like that room service more, when I've come from a place where I've been sleeping in a cot and cooking for myself. I appreciate it more."

McConaughey, who spent much of last summer (05) in a trailer park in Walnut Creek, California, thinks life on the road helps him when it comes to playing characters on the big screen.

He adds, "I love Los Angeles, and it's been very good to me, but if everyone is running around telling the stories, who's living them?

"You don't play characters that are celebrities - you play guys who know what to do when their septic tank's blocked."

And he loves the rules of the road: "In Hollywood there's all these mirrors. I'm on billboards and magazine covers, but here I'm being asked to pick up dog c**p."
