Matthew Mcconaughey was photographed looking uncharacteristically skinny during the filming for his new film, The Dallas Buyers Club.

The usually buff actor is playing AIDS sufferer Ronald Woodroof in the film, looking nothing like the McConaughey we've come to know in films such as this year's Magic Mike. Topped off with a very 70's looking wig, moustache and a sizeable lesion (fake - don't worry too much) on his forehead, the Texan actor is clearly taking his new role very seriously indeed. The Lincoln Lawyer star is said to have lost up to 30lbs for the role, according to The Sun. The actor has put himself on a very rigorous diet for the duration of the film, which allows him to only each five ounces of high-protein, low-carbohydrate foods a day.

The film itself is centred around the real-life Ron Woodroof, a drug taking, womenising, homophobe who was diagnosed with full HIV/AIDs in 1986 and given thirty days to live. With the help of his Doctor, Eve Saks (played by Jennifer Garner) and a fellow patient, Rayon (played by Jared Leto), Ron unintentionally created the Dallas Buyers Club, which provided illegal medication for fellow sufferers of the AIDs virus across America.

While McConaughey is shedding the pounds away, his over half, Camilla Alves, has been packing the pound on as she is expecting their third child.
