The actor played sensitive heart-throb Charlie Salinger on the hit show and wanted to create a more edgy image by giving himself a cut.
He explains, "It was a conscious choice. I'm proud of Party of Five, but I was playing a guy who was very soft and what women tell you they want in a man - sensitive, attentive, open.
"But they also like that edgy, dark, more brutal side. It was important to show my other sides.
"It was incredibly liberating. I love having short hair - it's the easiest thing in the world."
