They don’t have a TARDIS but they do have a Time Lord, as Doctor Who star Matt Smith has officially signed for a role in Terminator: Genesis.
He may still be the Doctor to some, but Matt Smith has bagged himself a major new role in the upcoming Terminator: Genesis movie. Paramount have now confirmed that Smith will play a major new role in the trilogy and reports are saying his part is set to grow over the course of the three films.
Matt Smith is heading to Terminator: Genesis
In the reboot, Arnold Schwarzenegger will reprise his famous role as The Terminator, with ‘Game of Thrones’ star Emilia Clarke playing Sarah Connor alongside Smith in his yet unnamed role. Also already signed on is Zero Dark Thirty actor Jason Clarke and Day Okeniyi who has been cast as Danny Dyson.
The film’s studio, Skydance Productions, took to twitter to announce the news writing, “We don't have a TARDIS, but we do have a Time Lord: we're pleased to welcome Matt Smith to the cast of #Terminator.” Careful not to give too much away about Smith’s role, they added that he will be playing a “new character with strong ties to John Connor.”
Arnie will be reprising his famous role
Information on the new Terminator trilogy has been scarce, but we do know Thor: The Dark World's Alan Taylor will direct. The film's set up is thought to include time travel, with scenes from the original 1984 movie being reprised.
Matt Smith came to prominence after he became the eleventh Doctor in the popular sci-fi series, playing the role between 2011 and 2013. His final appearance came at the end of the 2013 Christmas Special, after which Peter Capaldi assumed the role. Capaldi will make his ‘Doctor Who’ debut later this year.
