Virgin Galactic and NBC are teaming up to create a media event around the first commercial space flight.
Preparations for Richard Branson’s inaugural commercial space flight are in full force and this week, the billionaire announced that NBC was tasked with covering the lead-up and the flight itself. If everything goes according to plan Branson and his two children – Holly, 31, and Sam, 28 – could blast off from new Mexico on board the irgin Galactic SpaceShip Two rocket plane as soon as next August. This is looking increasingly likely, after Branson announced that the aircraft had successfully broken the sound barrier during tests already.
Branson is almost ready for takeoff.
Miley Cyrus cannot count TV host Mika Brzezinski as a fan.
"She's really messed up," brands Today's Mika Brzezinski on Miley Cyrus. The TV host who sent comedian Russell Brand into a rage with her ill-prepared and patronising interview has given her rather extreme views on Miley's divisive MTV Video Music Awards show performance on Monday night.
Mika Brzezinski: A Woman On The Warpath.
During her VMAs performance the 20 year-old emerged onstage out of the chest of a bear and wasted no time before she began to twerk, stick her tongue out, and thrusting to the music. She ripped off her cartoon bodice to reveal a nude PVC bikini before joining Robin Thicke in singing 'Blurred Lines' with a raunchy routine alongside.
Savannah Guthrie is engaged to her long term boyfriend Mike Feldman. Congrats!
Today anchor Savannah Guthrie has gotten engaged to her boyfriend, Mike Feldman, after four years together as a couple. The presenter flashed her ring to her Today co-host Matt Lauer for a photo that was soon uploaded on to his Twitter account, complete with the caption 'Big news from Savannah!'
Mike, who was a former aide to Al Gore before joining a communications firm that operates in Washington, D.C. and New York, popped the question to Savannah over the weekend, the presenter later revealed on air. The picture was uploaded shortly before Today went to air, and as the views came flooding in for the picture she and Lauer discussed her weekend briefly, with Guthrie saying, “We’ve been together four years so, as he said, no one can accuse us of rushing into anything,” adding, “Our families have been in-laws for years…they were just waiting for us to catch up!"
During the show, the celebrations went on with guest Bradley Cooper, who was promoting The Hangover III, coming on set with a bouquet of roses for the soon-to-be-wed anchor. The cheeky Oscar-nominee then asked the presenter, with his tongue firmly in cheek of course, whether he could have Guthrie's number.
Control room staff mocked Ann Curry's outfits whilst she was on air.
The alleged extent to the bullying of Ann Curry in her final months at the 'Today' show has been revealed in an explosive excerpt from New York Times writer Brian Stelter's upcoming book 'Top of the Morning'. In it, Stelter reveals how Curry described her final months at the breakfast television show as "professional torture," with colleagues regularly mocking her outfit choices before she was publically fired and replaced.
Executive producer Jim Bell even names the plot to oust Curry, 56, as 'Operation Bambi' after a friend told him firing the journalist would be like "killing Bambi." In the new excerpt posted on the New York Times' website, Stelter reveals that Curry felt bullied and belittled by the 'Today' show crew, who clearly wanted rid of her from day one. "Curry felt that the boys' club atmosphere behind the scenes at 'Today' undermined her from the start, and she told friends that her final months were a form of professional torture," he writes.
The incidents that Curry encountered included a blooper reel making fun of her on-screen gaffes, moving boxes of her belongings being placed into the coat closet and the mocking of her outfits. One unidentified Today staffer told Stelter that "a lot of time in the control room was spent making fun of Ann's outfit choices or just generally messing with her." After Curry wore a bright yellow dress one morning, members in the control room apparently Photoshopped a picture of Big Bird next to her, asking Today staff "who wore it best?" According to Stelter, Bell never wanted Curry to get the job in the first place, though his weak-minded assumption that she would probably end up on another network as a direct competitor delayed the decision to fire her.

Will Matt Lauer be at NBC for much longer?
Speculation surrounding Matt Lauer’s future at NBC has been rife, with many publications suggesting that he’s either about to jump ship, or be replaced by Anderson Cooper. But NBC have moved to stamp out those rumours.
NBC executive Alexandra Wallace told The Hollywood Reporter in a statement, "As we've said before, Matt Lauer is the best in the business. We want him in the Today show anchor chair for many years to come. We are not considering replacing Matt Lauer." NBC do go out looking for new talent regularly, but the idea that Cooper is someone they’re looking at was also dismissed. “NBC News has many exploratory talks with talent inside and outside of the network, but to read anything specific into that is presumptuous,” said an NBC News executive. Lauer’s relationship with the NBC execs has been a mixed bag. He hit out at the dismissal of Ann Curry, but was criticised for signing a 2-year $25m contract while her future was in jeopardy. For the network, though, the slide in viewing figures will be their biggest concern.

Will Anderson Cooper replace Matt Lauer on the Today show? Unconfirmed, but changes are certainly on the horizon.
The changes at NBC just keep on coming – this time it’s Anderson Cooper coming in as the rumoured replacement for Today show host Matt Lauer. There have been conflicting reports of how Lauer himself is taking the change – according to Deadline, the host isn’t too happy about his chosen replacement, while TMZ claims that Lauer is behind Cooper’s appointment all the way. The site reports that Lauer has even planned a meeting with his replacement to discuss the change.
Once again, nothing is set in stone about this transition, as an NBC exec told TMZ that network officials were in "exploratory talks with talent inside and outside of the network. But to read anything specific into that is presumptuous." Whatever the change may be and whenever it may happen, it makes sense in the context of NBC’s plummeting ratings. The network has been replacing and switching around hosts all throughout their programs.
Out with the old, in with the new. But is the 'new' Anderson Cooper?

Could Anderson and Matt Lauer be at odds?
Matt Lauer’s future at NBC has been in some doubt for a while now, with controversy after controversy coming his way. His network aren’t totally dumb though, and they’re lining up Anderson Cooper to fill his boots, should they be made for walking.
Based primarily on hearsay, the story was first reported by Deadline. Despite Lauer attacking the decision to oust Ann Curry, he’s been blamed for her exit - his new two-year, $25m contract the security the network needed before making the push. But security is a short-lived thing in television, and with ratings on the slide, Lauer’s position is far from safe. So step in Anderson Cooper, the recent recipient of the Vito Russo Award, named after a Glaad (Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) founder. Anderson is a popular presence on the box, and even more popular are his New Years Eve shows with Kathy Griffin, which could become a regular thing. If hearsay is to be believed, then a pilot has been filmed at Time Warner Center in New York. Of course, this would mean the end of Lauer on Today. NBC reportedly approached the host, seeking his blessing for the switch around, but, quite predictably, he wasn’t happy and even phoned Cooper to express his dismay.

There could be trouble ahead for NBC’s Today show. The breakfast programme is already suffering with flagging viewer figures and has been a talking point, ever since Ann Curry’s departure earlier this year. Now, host Matt Lauer is said to be furious at the appointment of Alexandra Wallace as the show’s new executive producer.
According to RadarOnline, there have already been some rather terse discussions between the two, regarding the future of the show and what’s more, Wallace is known to have a pretty close relationship with Ann Curry. Curry and Lauer, for the record, do not get along, it would seem. A source has told RadarOnline “Matt Lauer is NOT happy that Jim Bell who had been the executive producer of the Today show since 2005 has been forced out… Alexandra Wallace, who will be Bell's replacement, and Matt have never had a good working relationship. Matt doesn't like the fact that Alexandra is a big advocate of Ann Curry's.” Sounds as though there could be some frosty times ahead. Just cast your minds back to the moment that Matt had to introduce Ann’s segment as she reported from the London Olympics. It was pretty obvious back then that there was no love lost between them.
The source also confirmed that Wallace intended to “shake things up on the show” so that they could get it back on top of the ratings. The outgoing executive producer, Jim Bell, has been blamed for much of the show’s recent ill-fortunes.
