The makers of The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Ultimatum and The Bourne Supremacy have decided that there is life in the ol' franchise yet and indeed, life after Jason Bourne who was portrayed by Matt Damon for the original trilogy. The star of the show this time is Jeremy Renner, who is fulfilling the secret agent role.
Renner is not exactly a household name but does have a number of significant roles under his belt, such as playing Sergeant First Class William James in Kathryn Bigelow's The Hurt Locker. No doubt by August 2012 - when The Bourne Legacy is released - his name will have become a familiar one. Renner plays the role of Aaron Cross, though he refers to himself as 'Kenneth' in the trailer that is currently doing the rounds online. Snippets of background information are given away; that he heals remarkably quickly, for a start. Edward Norton's character, Byer, tells us that "Jason Bourne was just the tip of the iceberg."
The trailer starts with a bloodied and bruised Renner, being questioned by officials, testing his allegiance to 'the program.' These phase into action shots that see him slaying what look to be security guards with his bare hands in a corridor, swinging from trees in snowy mountains and sniping at planes from the ground. The trailer makes multiple references to the original Bourne films but it seems clear, from this initial teaser that the producers are going for a 'bigger and better' approach to this sequel.
