LATEST: Country maverick Marty Stuart has been handed a two-day prison sentence after pleading guilty to drink driving charges in Tennessee.

A 27 July (04) court date was initially set to respond to the charge, but Stuart's attorney said the singer entered the guilty plea on Friday (02JUL04).

The rest of Stuart's sentence of 11 months and 29 days has been suspended. He was also fined $350 (GBP194).

Stuart was arrested last month (JUN04) in the Nashville suburb of Hendersonville, Tennessee. He was scheduled to begin serving his sentence on Tuesday (06JUL04).

Ironically, his jail time coincides with that of another country great, Glen Campbell, who was also imprisoned for drink driving. Campbell is serving a 10-night stint in Arizona.
