Katherine Jenkins dug deep emotionally as the latest round of Dancing With The Stars kicked off last night (April 2, 2012), but the results were worth it as the Welsh opera star continued her relentless seduction of America by gaining a huge ovation for her performance and a pair of 10s on her way to a score of 29 out of a possible 30.
MTV News reports that the theme of the latest week was Most Memorable Years, and Jenkins opted to go back in time to something hugely personal to her; 1996 - the year her father had lung cancer. It's no surprise then to report that by the end of her waltz with professional partner Mark Ballas she was in tears. Judge Carrie Ann Inaba was similarly choked and there was no way the 31 year-old star wasn't going to get the highest score of the evening.

Katherine Jenkins has steadily impressed the judges on the Dancing With The Stars in recent weeks, but the Welsh opera singer and blonde bombshell took her performance to another level in the latest round of the show after donning a ridiculously short dress that revealed legs that went on for aeons. Undoubtedly her new wild look really bolstered her overall confidence, and her sexy jive with professional partner Mark Ballas was among the highlights of the evening.
Jenkins looked initially a little uncomfortable with the fast-paced nature of her dance with Ballas, reports ABC, however by the end she was resplendent, leading judge BRUNO TONIOLO to enthuse that she had been unleashed. Other high points of the evening came with Roshon Fegen and his partner Chelsie Hightower who impressed in both their dances, judge Len Goodman being particularly enamoured with the pair. Maria Menounos meanwhile bravely battled through a rib injury and together with her partner Derek Hough amassed a points total of 25 from a possible 30.

Katherine Jenkins gained 26 points out of 30 for her performance on 'Dancing with the Stars' last night, putting her at the top of the leader board for a second week.
The Welsh opera singer and her dancing partner scored 26 out of 30 for her jive performance, with judges Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli awarding her nine and head judge Len Goodman giving her eight.
Commenting on their dance, Len said: ''I loved the start, the whole end section - the middle section wasn't really my cup of tea. It was wild and wacky.''

Opera singer Katherine Jenkins and partner Mark Ballas topped the leader board in the opening show of 'Dancing with the Stars' last night (19.03.12).

The producers of Dancing With The Stars are insisting that their decision to hire a cast of unknowns to take part in this year's contest will not put viewers off tuning in. "The idea of the show is that by the end, you're enjoying people you never knew," explains Deena Katz, the show's senior producer, to Usa Today.
When the line-up for the show was announced, the attention was on the names that people did recognize, such as the tennis champion Martina Navratilova, Melrose Place actor Jack Wagner, or the soul singer Gladys Knight. But with past contestants such as Bristol Palin and Chaz Bono having caused a real stir in the media, the potential for drama in this year's line-up looks seriously limited, despite Katz's insistence that the same remarks are made every year. Katz claims to have avoided the 'shock' contestants this year, on purpose, saying "It's great. There's buzz. But I don't want to start a fight before the season starts. I want to give really good people without the shock value. There's enough in this world."The fact remains, though, that fans of the show are faced with a cast of 'celebrity' dancers that they know very little about and will need to rely on the shows producers building a rapport between viewer and contestant. The Welsh opera singer Katherine Jenkins is one of the dancers who is little-known in the States and hoping that her involvement on the show will raise her profile across the pond. She shrugs off the problem of being an unknown though, confident that her fancy footwork will be enough to win her a few fans: "I totally didn't expect anyone to know me," she says. "It's exciting. I hope to impress them with my fox trot."
Katherine Jenkins feels ''so nervous'' ahead of competing in 'Dancing with the Stars' because she thinks it will be a ''challenge''.
The opera singer is hoping to enjoy the ''challenge'' of the US TV dance contest - in which she will be partnered by Mark Ballas - but is unsure she can meet the physical demands.
She said: ''While I am so excited to be part of the show, I am a little nervous because I don't yet know what I am letting myself in for.

Katherine Jenkins may have been added to the list of stars competing on the forthcoming season of Dancing With The Stars but will the show's American audience know who she is? The record-breaking opera singer did sing on the show last year but she is still yet to 'crack' the American audience.

Gladys Knight is perhaps the biggest name to be announced in the latest line-up for Dancing With The Stars as the long running reality contest reaches its 14th season - a whopping feat, and testament to its durability considering they've run two seasons every year since 2006. Knight was nothing short of a hit factory in the 60s and 70s during Motown's boom time, carving out a career for herself first with The Pips and then going solo to considerable success. She remains one of the most well known names of the Motown era.
Other singers involved include Gavin Degraw, Jack Wagner and opera singer Katherine Jenkins. As ever though, it's the sports stars who many will be looking at to bring the competitive edge, and with Tennis great Martina Navratilova and Green Bay Packers receiver Donald Driver in the line-up you know that they'll likely be among the toughest competitors the show has ever seen. A host of actors will be involved too, including former child star Melissa Gilbert and Cuban actor WILLIAM LEVY. If were looking for the comedy entry this year meanwhile, one might look at Sherri Shepherd, co-host of 'The View,' though she may of course surprise us all.
