Country star Martina McBride will turn the Big Apple pink later this month (Oct11) by lighting up the Empire State Building to raise awareness of breast cancer.
The singer will host a private show and benefit event, Martina MCBride: Light Up the Sky, at New York's most iconic landmark as she launches her new album, Eleven.
The Empire State Building will be flooded with pink light, the colour of the breast cancer awareness campaign, which is close to the star's heart after recording new track I'm Gonna Love You Through This, based on the life of Lily Isaacs, a woman who lived through the disease.
She says, "(The song) was so honest. My first thought was, 'I wonder if people will be uncomfortable when they hear this' because the writers use words that aren't typically found in songs. My next thought was, 'It would be pretty brave to record a song like this,' and then I thought, 'I'm recording this song.' All that went through my head in about 15 seconds.
"We want to send a collective message of hope to breast cancer patients, survivors and supporters as we turn one of the world's most popular landmarks pink."
