Bereft Review

OK
It took two guys to direct this? Vinessa Shaw isn't really enough of an actress to carry such a weighty role, starring (in nearly every scene) as a woman who's distraught over her dead husband, who was run over by a car while jogging. To cope, she snaps photographs, shoplifts, and hangs out with a local freak (Tim Blake Nelson). Meanwhile, her parents want her to move on with her life, and after 90 minutes, so do we.

Chapter Two Review

Good
Possibly Neil Simon's most morbid play, James Caan plays a widower who finds love a second time in catty Marsha Mason. Their whirlwind romance comprises the over-long but occasionally funny tragicomedy, one of Simon's lesser-known works but certainly one of the films that's closest to his heart.

Drop Dead Fred Review

Bad
Ouch. Phoebe Cates, lost in obscurity since Fast Times at Ridgemont High and Gremlins, made this utter bomb in 1991, and poor Carrie Fisher got drawn into the mess, too. The story of a grown woman with an invisible/imaginary friend, the movie is unfortunately aimed at teens/kids instead of twentysomethings who would have appreciated another chance to get a glimpse of Cates in the buff. Alas, it just was not to be. Atrocious and utterly unfunny.

Well, the answer is this: Yes, it's a shameless Pulp Fictionrip-off (more like Pulp Fiction meets Short Cuts), but it's actually quite entertaining, in its own quirky little way.
