Decoding Annie Parker Trailer


Annie Parker is a fun-loving young woman struggling with the difficulties of motherhood, a husband who's slowly losing interest and, more importantly, breast cancer. She is unsurprised that she has become afflicted with the disease following her mother and older sister's suffering, but she suddenly finds herself overcome with the determination to find out why. Meanwhile, a young research geneticist named Mary-Claire King is looking into a breakthrough theory that suggests that some women are genetically pre-disposed to have breast cancer due to a particular gene. Unfortunately for her, there are few scientists who believe her theory. In order to prove her theory, she must conduct a research project looking into cancer sufferers' and their relatives' medical history - and that's where Annie Parker is eager to help.

Good
More than a decade after Scream 3, Craven and company reteam for another knowing thriller about scary movies. And by both following and subverting the rules of a reboot, they make a film that's both frightening and hilarious.

On the 10th anniversary of the original killings, Sidney (Campbell) returns to Woodsboro, having put the darkness behind her. Although the Stab movies based on her experience have reached number 7. Then a new spree of grisliness starts, and Sheriff Dewey (Arquette) and his journalist wife Gale (Cox) are on the case. Meanwhile, Sidney's cousin Jill (Roberts) and her pals (Pannettiere and Jaffe) are both fascinated and terrified by what's happening. So are the school's movie geeks (Knudsen and Culkin) and Jill's ex (Tortorella).

A Perfect Getaway Review


OK
Scruffy and twisty, this honeymoon-from-hell thriller kind of unravels as it goes along. But before it succumbs to the formula, the actors manage to catch our attention, so we have to see it through to what'll surely be an outrageous finale.Cliff and Cydney (Zahn and Jovovich) are honeymooning in Kauai, where they decide to go on a two-day hike to an idyllic isolated beach, leaving just before hearing the news that there's a murderous couple on the loose. Soon they meet, and ditch, the rather shifty hitchhikers Cleo and Kale (Shelton and Hemsworth), then they decide to join another couple, Nick and Gina (Olyphant and Sanchez) for the hike. But Cleo and Kale catch up with them. And strange things start going snap in the jungle.From the beginning, we know writer-director Twohy intends on taking us for a ride, because of his purringly seductive filmmaking style and red herrings galore. Everyone looks suspicious, they all have secrets, and we quickly realise we can't trust anyone. Then Twohy starts layering in flashbacks to fill in the back-stories, up to an extended black and white sequence that sorts out the loose ends and sets things up for the frantic, action-charged climax.The first half of the film builds the atmosphere perfectly, establishing the characters with economy thanks to a clever script and an especially strong cast. Zahn and Jovovich are play against type effectively, and are terrific as the hapless lovebirds, while Olyplant and Sanchez are superb as their edgy new buddies. So by the time things start going nuts, everyone can generate jolts and humour at exactly the right moments.And boy do things get nuts. Not in any inventively unhinged way, but in the standard movie style of building to impossibly big action set pieces and then twisting them slightly, pausing for half a breath and then carrying on full speed. The gruesome, frenetic last act is utterly over-the-top, but still manages to be entertaining simply because it's so preposterous, and because we've come to like being around these characters who are now in a battle for their lives. And by the end, we've completely forgotten to care about all the gaping plot holes.

Grindhouse Review


Excellent
Longtime buddies Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez have worked together before (Four Rooms, Sin City), but this takes it to the next level. Grindhouse is their shared B-movie fantasy: a three-hour, bare-knuckled double feature epic, an unapologetic celebration of '70s-era hardcore schlock that's authentic, witty beyond expectation, and unerringly crowd-pleasing.

In a recent TV interview, Tarantino said he and Rodriguez had always wished those low-budget flicks were as good as their posters -- and they set out to achieve that, decades after the movies' heyday. With an obvious passion for the genre, the pair has recreated the experience of being at some cheap Texas drive-in with two features, fake coming attractions, missing reels, local ads, and announcements from theater management. Even if you don't catch on to everything, just watching the package is a complete thrill.

Just a Kiss Review

It looks like actor Fisher Stevens discovered rotoscoping in 2002, and figured a little post-production trickery (used at random and only on certain characters at certain times throughout the film) would distract people enough into looking past the general unwatchability of this black comedy/romance that wastes just about everything it has going for it. A few funny set pieces and some impressive actors (Tomei, Eldard, Dinklage, Sedgwick) all turn up to be for naught. Stevens would rather show off his budget animation technique and tell a silly "turn back the clock" story that is alternately nonsensical and trite.

Dallas 362 Review


OK
Scott Caan wrote and directed this film about, um, himself and his erstwhile brother Rusty (Shawn Hatosy), two lovable toughs/borderline losers determined to make something good of their lives. That is, if they can stop fighting in bars and working for the local bookie as enforcer muscle. The meandering film is well meaning but derivative of many twentysomething-ennui indies, though it's bolstered by a fun performance by Jeff Goldblum as a stoner shrink and Kelly Lynch as the boys' mom, caught topless (and in bed with Goldblum) in just about every other scene she's in.

Bubble Boy Review


Grim
It's difficult to expect much from a director whose greatest accomplishments to date are a handful of "award-winning" TV commercials, as is the case with Bubble Boy director Blair Hayes. That said, Hayes's feature film debut lives up to expectations, coming off mainly as equal parts offensive and moronic. But occasionally, Bubble Boy transcends its substandard roots with glimmers of humor and scathing social commentary.

Those moments of intelligence are delivered mostly by the film's two stars, Jake Gyllenhall as the immuno-deficient Jimmy and Swoosie Kurtz as his over-protective, hyper religious, Reagan-loving mother. Gyllenhall's sweet-natured delivery of Jimmy's hilariously naïve narration serves as the backbone for an otherwise flimsy coming-of-age story: Jimmy is a Bubble Boy, a kid born without immunity who could die if he comes in contact with a single germ -- a plight explored more seriously in the John Travolta TV movie Boy in the Plastic Bubble and less so on Seinfeld.

Valentine Review


Terrible
Well, here's something that will make you wish you'd stayed home to watch Survivor instead of shelling out money at the movies. Hell, Valentine, another entry into the yearly, winter horror crapfest, even makes Temptation Island look good.

What we've got here is your standard grade horror flick in the vein of Scream and Urban Legend, revolving around a mysterious killer devising a supposed revenge plot -- a geeky kid who got a Carrie pulled on him in 6th grade. My how the tables have turned! The bunch of girls who refused to dance with him are now getting killed, 13 years later. Has this nobody returned from obscurity to exact his revenge for having punch poured on him?

The Bachelor Review


Grim
There are two types of comedies coming out of Hollywood today: adult-oriented star-vehicles and teen-oriented ensemble pictures. You can say what you will about the preponderance of whining, post-modern Dawson's Creek reprises stocking our airwaves and movie theaters, but you can't say much at all about the vacuous one-trick pony known as the modern Hollywood romantic comedy. So I will keep my comments on The Bachelor brief.

In full, the plot of The Bachelor is that Chris O'Donnell has 27 hours to tie the knot, which would assure him of a $100 million inheritance and cozy jobs for life for himself and all of his friends. Unfortunately, he already monumentally botched his proposal to his girlfriend, Renee Zellweger (I won't bother with character names here; I didn't remember them, you won't either). Wacky hijinks ensue, and we all hope desperately it will work out for the best between Chris and Renee.
