The story of how the world's biggest fast food restaurant was founded is a shocking one rife with betrayal and dishonesty. 'The Founder' directed by John Lee Hancock tells as much about the beginnings of McDonald's, but it was actually a song that inspired the creation of the biopic.

When producer Don Handfield heard Dire Straits frontman Mark Knopfler's 2004 single 'Boom, Like That' - from his album 'Shangri-La' - he was fascinated by the narrative and the central figure; a former milkshake mixer salesman Ray Kroc. It's written in his perspective with lyrics like: 'These boys have got this down ought to be one of these in every town/ These boys have got the touch It's clean as a whistle and it don't cost much/ Wham! Bam! You don't wait long, shake, fries, patty you're gone/ How about that friendly name, heck, every little thing ought to stay the same'.

Mark Knopfler Explores The Concept Of Time In Forthcoming Solo Album 'Tracker' [Video]

Former Dire Straits guitarist Mark Knopfler is set to unveil his eighth solo album 'Tracker' this Spring through Mercury records, to be followed by an extensive Europe and North American tour in later months. In a short documentary, he opened up about the album's central themes.

It's been 24 years since the last Dire Straits studio album, 'On Every Street', was released, and since then Mark Knopfler has released seven solo albums (not including soundtracks) of his own, the last of which was 2012's 'Privateering'. Now having completed his next venture, 'Tracker', he reflects on the concept of time; a theme which he drew upon regularly while compiling the tracklist.

Mark Knopfler, Privateering Album Review


Mark Knopfler's now produced more studio albums as a solo artist, than he did with the band that he will forever be remembered for, Dire Straits. Discounting various soundtracks and side projects, his seventh solo outing Privateering is an ambitious double record that continues his latter day purple patch. Equal helpings of Celtic inspired folk, traditional blues, country, and that Geordie sense of humour, make the 20 tracks here less of a marathon, and more a stroll down memory lane.
