The 'Never Let Me Go' director is in negotiations with Warner Bros. to helm the upcoming prequel to Stanley Kubrick's 1980 classic 'The Shining' - which was based on Stephen King's 1977 novel of the same name - Variety reports.
'Overlook Hotel' is based on Stephen King's original prologue to 'The Shining' - the film of which starred Jack Nicholson as possessed hotel caretaker Jack Torrance - and will tell the story of the building through the eyes of its first owner, Bob T. Watson.

The 54-year-old filmmaker is negotiating a deal on the thriller which is based on the desperate search for the murderer who terrorised Boston in the early 1960s, sources tell Variety.com.
Casey Affleck is set to appear in the movie as one of the detectives who was part of the Strangler Squad working on the case and will also act as executive producer, while Kevin McCormick's Langley Park will produce.

The Gone Baby Gone star will also executive produce the movie, which will be based on the true story of Albert DeSalvo, who confessed to murdering 13 women in the Boston, Massachusetts area, according to Variety.com.
Affleck will reportedly play a detective investigating the infamous crimes.

The Oscar-winning director - whose new movie '127 Hours' closes this year's London Film Festival - has been bestowed with the accolade, previously given to Ridley Scott, Sir Michael Caine and Clint Eastwood, among others, in a move he admits he is "shocked and flattered" by.
The British filmmaker said: "A significant helping of humility is called for in the face of this honour and that is not difficult considering those awarded it before.
