Mark Knopfler insists his recent collaboration with country star Emmylou Harris was a success because both artists are well-versed in singing about life's miseries. The former Dire Straits frontman claims the beauty of his new album with Harris, ALL THE ROADRUNNING, is in its contemplation of life's hardships and the search for happiness. Knopfler says, "We don't do great life affirmation, either of us, but we do pretty good misery. "We've both been married, both been divorced. I hear that when Emmy sings. I hear the patience, the compassion, the experience. We're all sort of one paycheck away from a trailer park in our lives. We've all been there. "People want the same things: somebody to love us and appreciate us for who we are. It's hard to find."
