Singer Marianne Faithfull was given a standing ovation at a Rolling Stones tribute concert in New York on Tuesday night (13Mar12) after performing her Mick Jagger/Keith Richards hit As Tears Go By.
Faithfull was among the many stars who took part in the benefit, The Music of the Rolling Stones Hot Rocks 1961-1971, at Carnegie Hall - and her appearance was among the magical concert's highlights.
She introduced the tune by stating, "This is the first song that Mick and Keith wrote, and they wrote it for me, so I was very happy."
None of the Stones were present for the show - but they were not missed as the likes of Jackson Browne, Glen Hansard, Peaches, TV On The Radio, Steve Earle, Taj Mahal and Ronnie Spector stepped up to perform their renditions of the band's classics.
Another highlight came when Art Garfunkel stepped up to perform Ruby Tuesday - it marked the singer's first major public appearance since he was forced to step back from the spotlight in 2010 after being diagnosed with vocal paresis.
The only low point of the night came when singer/actress Juliette Lewis appeared to have forgotten the words to the Stones' Satisfaction.
