With all the furore that's gone on surrounding Fox's acquisition of pop diva icon Mariah Carey for a judges slot in next year's 'American Idol', people seem to have forgotten that there were in actual fact two places to fill, with Aerosmith man Steven Tyler also following Jennifer Lopez out the door at the end of the previous run. However Deadline.com is reporting that 'Idol' bosses haven't been resting on their laurels and might be close to landing someone for that vacancy too, with country star Brad Paisley strongly tipped to be taking on the role.
The signing of Paisley would make perfect sense, given that the show's most successful alumni is Carrie Underwood - a country star - whilst several others have gone on to country fame including 2011 winner Scotty Mccreery. Rival 'The Voice' has also seen success with a country artist in as judge, Blake Shelton winning over audiences. Paisley might not have sold the same amount as Carey over her glittering career, but he's still a big hitter in his own right, with six of his seven full length albums topping the US Country charts and four of them going platinum Stateside.
Randy Jackson is expected to return to his seat for the new season, and other rumours are that Fox are considering going back to a four-person judging panel, with shows like 'The Voice' and 'X Factor' adopting a similar stance recently. For the past two years 'Idol' has been judged by only three people.
