Mariah Carey has been a judge on the talent show 'American Idol' since 2012 for its 12th season.

The 43 year-old will not be returning next season.

Throughout her tenure on the show, Carey had a well-publicised rivalry with fellow judge, Nicki Minaj and she recently described working on 'Idol' was like "going to work every day in hell with Satan."

The 'Touch My Body' singer sat down for a candid interview with Hot 97 radio in the US and was more than candid when asked about the talent series.

Carey told host Angie Martinez, "Honestly, I hated it."

The wife of Nick Cannon thought she would love working on the show, "I was the first person signed on," she said.

"I thought it was going to be a three-person panel. They gave me a nice dangling monetary moment, and I was just like, 'Okay. Randy Jackson will be there; I've known him forever. He used to play bass for me. Like, this isn't a big deal. This will be nothing."

The other judges to join her, as well as Minaj, were country singer Keith Urban and the returning Randy Jackson. Carey still isn't on civil terms with the 'Starships' rapper as she explained, "But it wasn't that. It was like going to work every day in hell with Satan."

Comparing Nicki to the devil seems a bit too extreme and it sound like Mariah also just realised how harsh it was. She quickly backtracked by stating, "Naw, I'm just playing. It didn't affect me that much. I was disappointed."

The 'E=MC²' hit maker also criticised the show itself for not putting contestants through due to "political reasons", she stated, "You know what I loved? I loved the contestants. And some of them that were so good - and also really good people, you could tell - it was disappointing when they would, for political reasons, not put people through."

Nicki and Mariah are not returning for the next series and they both were only appeared as judges for the 12th season.
