Mariah Carey has been added to the list of potential new American Idol judges - as her old friend and collaborator Randy Jackson's replacement.
Just hours after Steven Tyler announced he was quitting the TV talent contest, sources tell Us Weekly magazine that Jackson is likely to be next.
And, with Jennifer Lopez hinting that she's considering leaving the show on a U.S. breakfast show, producers appear to be looking for a clean sweep in a bid to compete with their star-studded rivals The X Factor and The Voice.
The insiders claim Jackson is hoping to stay on as a mentor on the show he has been a part of for the past decade. Ironically, he is one of Carey's closest advisors.
One source tells the publication, "They (producers) are in serious talks with Mariah and it's very close to being a done deal. Then they will move Randy into a more mentoring role."
Former Idol favourite Adam Lambert and Black Eyed Peas stars Fergie and will.i.am have also been linked to judging roles on Idol in recent weeks.
Katy Perry has revealed she was approached but turned producers down because she felt the programme was too much of a "commitment" for her.
