Australian producer and DISCO MONTEGO star DARREN DOWLUT has died in a Melbourne hospital, only six weeks after he was diagnosed with cancer. He was 27.

The singer/songwriter, who remixed Mariah Carey's hit BOY I NEED YOU, discovered he had cancer in late June (05), after doctors found a tumour in his chest.

Dowlut died at the Monash Medical Centre on Saturday (06AUG05).

After enjoying success as R+B duo KAYLAN, the Melbourne-born star and brother, DENNIS DOWLUT, formed Disco Montego in 2001 and released a succession of hit house tracks, including MAGIC and BEAUTIFUL, which featured the vocals of ex-BARDOT singer KATIE UNDERWOOD.

The brothers were in the middle of a move to Los Angeles, where they planned to work with top American singers and producers, when Darren was diagnosed and their plans were put on hold.
