After splitting from her husband of six years Nick Cannon last August it seems Mariah Carey might have found herself a new beau, as the superstar singer has been pictured spending time with director Brett Ratner. But while Ratner has denied reports of a romance between the pair recent pictures might tell a different story.

After being spotted together in Miami on Friday RadarOnline reported that Carey and Ratner had struck up a romance following the singer’s divorce from comedian Nick Cannon. “Their relationship has progressed in recent weeks and is now very serious,” a source told the website. “They’re a hot couple.”

The insider went on to reveal that the pair jetted off together on March 27th for a joint birthday celebration. The director turned 46 on March 28th, and Carey’s birthday, which she prefers to call her “anniversary,” was on March 27th.

A few days prior, on March 24th, the ‘couple’ were pictured out for dinner with mutual friend Courtney Love at Craig’s in Beverly Hills. Sharing a picture of the trio on Instagram Ratner wrote “I love these ladies.”

But a rep for Ratner told People that any reports that Carey and Ratner are dating are "ridiculous." "They have been best friends for a very long time," the rep said. Indeed the two have know each other for years and have so far collaborated on eight music videos including ‘Thank God I Found You’ and ‘We Belong Together’.

Although Ratner has denied the romance the pair have been pictured together since his comments, when they were reportedly flown out to St. Barts on the private jet of Aussie billionaire James Packer.

Carey finalised her divorce from husband of six years Nick Cannon at the beginning of the year, the couple married in 2008 and are parents to three-year-old twins Monroe and Moroccan. Ratner’s most high profile romance was with tennis player Serena Williams, who dated the director from 2004 to 2005.
