Mariah Carey (born 27.3.1970) Mariah Carey is an American R&B and pop singer / songwriter. She first found chart success in the 1990s and her musical career has continued for over a decade.
Net worth: Mariah Carey's net worth was estimated at $510 million in 2013. (Celebritynetworth) Childhood: Mariah Carey was born in New York. Her parents are Patricia Hickey (an opera singer and vocal coach) and Alfred Carey (an aeronautical engineer). Mariah's parents divorced when she was three and Carey's mother began teaching Mariah to sing. After graduating from Harborfields High School, Mariah moved to New York City. In 1988, she attended a party at which she met Tommy Mottola, a Columbia Records executive. Mottola was given Mariah's demo tape and liked the tape so much that he tracked her down after the party and gave her a record deal with Columbia.
Career: Mariah Carey's eponymous debut album was released in 1990. She co-wrote the tracks on the album and has continued to do so since. Mariah Carey reached number one on the Billboard 200 chart. Four number one singles were released from the album and Carey won two Grammys - Best New Artist and Best Female Vocal Pop Performance (for 'Vision of Love.')
The second album, Emotions was a tribute to Motown. Released in 1991, Emotions did not sell as well as her debut, nor did it fare as well with the music press. However, when the title track was released as a single, Mariah Carey became the only act in history to have their first five singles go to number one in the US. Eager to quash rumours that her voice was heavily effected in the studio, Carey overcame the stage fright that prevented her from touring and featured on MTV Unplugged in 1992.
In 1993, her third album, Music Box was released and spawned her first UK number one single, a cover of Badfinger's 'Without You'. 'Dreamlover' and ''Hero' were both US number ones. The next year, Carey duetted with Luther Vandross on a cover of Lionel Richie and Diana Ross' 'Endless Love'.
The track was a hit and Carey followed it up with a festive album, Merry Christmas. The original track, 'All I Want For Christmas Is You' was a huge worldwide hit (her first in Japan). The album became the most successful Christmas album of all time.
1995 saw the release of Mariah Carey's fifth album, Daydream. 'Fantasy', the single featuring rapper Ol' Dirty Bastard, debuted at number one and the album became her biggest selling release in the US, as well as gaining her six Grammy award nominations.
Butterfly was released in 1997 and although it was a success, failed to achieve the sales of her previous releases. In 1998, Mariah Carey recorded a duet with Whitney Houston. 'When You Believe' was recorded for the Prince of Egypt soundtrack and won an Academy Award. Rainbow was Carey's seventh album, released in 1999. 'Heartbreaker', featuring Jay-Z, was a number one single and made Carey the only artist to have had a number one in each year of the 1990s. Leaving Columbia records at the turn of the century, Carey signed a contract with EMI. The deal was reported to be worth $80 million. When Carey eventually released Glitter, (the semi-autobiographical film and accompanying soundtrack that she had been working on for some time), it was largely derided by the press and proved to be Mariah's worst selling release. Shortly after the release of Glitter, Columbia released a Greatest Hits album. However, this also failed to sell well.
In 2002, Virgin bought out Carey's contract for $28 million. With a new contract under her belt, Carey released Charmbracelet. The album preformed badly in the album charts and her vocal abilities were criticised in the media. In 2004, however, she was awarded the Chopard Diamond award for selling more than 100 million albums worldwide. The Emancipation of Mimi was Carey's 10th album, released in 2005. The album became the best-selling album of the year in the US. Two years later, she received a 'recording star' on the Hollywood Wall of Fame. She was inducted into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame the same year. E=MC2, Carey's 11th album, as released in 2008. The lead single, 'Touch My Body' became her 18th number one in the Billboard Hot 100, making her second only to The Beatles, who have had 21 number one singles. E=MC2 was her sixth number one album.
In 2008, she appeared briefly in the comedy 'You Don't Mess with the Zohan' opposite Adam Sandler. The following year she appeared in the drama 'Precious' with Gabourey Sidibe. Her twelfth studio album was 'Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel' which became her lowest selling album so far. It featured the single 'Obsessed' which was thought to include a dig at Eminem after his Nick Cannon gibe.
She celebrated the release with her Angels Advocate Tour. In 2010, she performed 'Hero' during President Barack Obama's Neighborhood Inaugural Ball. She then released a second Christmas album entitled 'Merry Christmas II You' - a follow up to her best-selling festive album. She also sang a duet of 'When Do The Bells Ring For Me' with Tony Bennett which appeared on his 'Duets II' album.
2011 saw her record a duet of 'All I Want for Christmas Is You' with Justin Bieber for his 'Under the Mistletoe' album. She appeared on 'American Idol' as a judge for the twelfth season, but later revealed not to have enjoyed it due to several spats with co-panellist Nicki Minaj. In 2013, she appeared alongside Forest Whitaker in Lee Daniels' 'The Butler'. That year she recorded 'Almost Home' for the movie 'Oz the Great and Powerful'. The next year she unveiled her thirteenth album 'Me. I Am Mariah' which included the single 'Beautiful' featuring Miguel.
Personal Life: Mariah Carey married Tommy Mottola in 1993 before divorcing in 1998 due partly to his controlling behaviour. Mariah Carey surprised celebrity news sites everywhere when she married Nick Cannon in a secret ceremony in 2008. Their marriage came after just 6 weeks of dating. The pair subsequently gave birth to twins named Monroe and Moroccan in 2011, having previously suffered a miscarriage the previous year. Mariah suffered many complications during the pregnancy including pre-eclampsia, and gestational diabetes.

Rapper/actor Nick Cannon is mourning the death of his father.
The America's Got Talent host took to social media on Sunday (22May16) to share the loss of motivational televangelist James Cannon with fans, as he remembered his "Pops" in a series of photos.
"Man I'm gonna miss these Sundays...," he wrote beside a photo of himself and his dad sitting in the front of a convertible car as they headed to church.

Director Lee Daniels has accused his close friend Mariah Carey of tricking him into featuring on her upcoming reality show.
The filmmaker, who worked with the Hero superstar on his movies Precious, Tennessee, and The Butler, reveals he was invited to join the singer for dinner in New York City, but he was not alerted to the fact their meal would be documented on camera.
"That b**ch," Lee commented during an appearance on SiriusXM's Bevelations show. "She says, 'Come over...!' I show up to this room at a Kosher steakhouse somewhere on Wall Street, and the cameras are in my face and recording our conversation! And she says, 'Dahling, dahling, dahling (sic), sign (the release form), sign it, sign it, we're doing a little documentary.'"
Lee only discovered the real nature of the project the following day, when Mariah's World was officially announced.

Mariah Carey - Mariah Carey leaves Claridges hotel, amid chaotic scenes. Two burly minders escorted her to her car, while no less than four members of her entourage loaded up her cars with her suitcases, despite the fact she was only in London for 24hrs! - London, United Kingdom - Friday 20th May 2016
Mariah Carey has to be careful what she says about fiance James Packer in TV interviews because her openness can get her into trouble.
The diva was asked to reveal more about her man during an appearance on U.S. show Access Hollywood Live on Thursday (19May16), but insisted she'd rather not chat about him.
"He's a private businessman, so I don't like to talk about him in these public moments," she said. "People listen to what you say and they're interested and then they're gonna pick it up... I don't wanna be, like, inappropriate, or anything. I just say whatever..."
But she did offer up a few adjectives about the guy who will become Mariah's third husband later this year (16), adding, "He's a great guy, he's amazing, he's generous, he's kind, he's loving, he's fantastic."

The two singers have long been rumoured to be enemies, after Carey once said "I don't know her,” when asked about Lopez.
Mariah Carey has stated once and for all that there’s no real beef between her and Jennifer Lopez. The two multitalented artists have been rumoured to be feuding ever since the early 2000s, when Carey was asked about Lopez by a reporter and responded, "I don't know her.”
Mariah Carey has spoken about rumours of a feud with J-Lo.
Appearing on 'Watch What Happens Live', Andy Cohen asked Carey about her infamous J-Lo comments. "That was so long ago," she said. "I can't believe people still make such a big deal out of it."

Mariah Carey has slammed rumours she is having a circus-themed wedding
The 46-year-old singer is engaged to Australian billionaire James Packer, who popped the question with a 35-carat engagement ring in January (16) after less than a year of dating.
There have been wild reports about the plans for their nuptials, but as she appeared on Watch What Happens Live on Tuesday night (17May16), Mariah set the record straight on one claim in particular.
When asked by host Andy Cohen about the allegations she was planning to have endangered species included as part of her circus-themed wedding, insisting: "No, that really made me mad. These people really want to tell me I want endangered animals at my wedding? I mean, I have several dogs. I'm such an animal lover and such an advocate for animals that I'm like, really, that's what I'm going to do, have like endangered species? Should I make coats from them all? What else should we do?"

Mariah Carey was left red-faced on Monday (16May16) after stumbling in her towering heels as she promoted her new reality series in New York City.
The Hero hitmaker, who wore a fitted black and gold animal print mini dress to the NBC Upfronts TV presentation, lost her balance as she was being escorted down the blue carpet in Rockefeller Plaza, where one of her Christian Louboutin platform shoes slipped off her left foot.
Luckily, Mariah managed to avoid complete embarrassment by grabbing the arm of one of her security guards, who helped the singer regain her balance and composure before she walked over to pose for the cameras.
The 46-year-old attended the TV event to discuss her Mariah's World documentary series, which is due to premiere on America's E! network later this year (16).

So many stars turned out for the 2016 event.
As usual, the annual GLAAD Media Awards was a hilarious, heart-warming and heart-breaking affair. Celebrities came out in droves to defend this discriminated community, to accept recognition for their work to help these communities and to talk about all the positive changes that are happening to aid in the equalization of humanity.
Mariah Carey's GLAAD speech was everything
This year's ceremony was hosted by 'Orange Is The New Black' star Laverne Cox and featured a whole host of stars in attendance to accept their various awards and make some inspiring speeches. Here are just a few of the top moments at the 27th annual GLAAD event:
Mariah Carey won't be singing at her own wedding.
The pop superstar was gushing about her wedding preparations at the 27th Annual GLAAD Media Awards in New York City on Saturday (14May16) before she was honoured with the organisation's Ally Award, telling reporters her current world tour had delayed the nuptials.
Mariah also revealed she had picked out her wedding dress, but scolded one hack who asked if she'd be performing on her big day.
"Why would you sing at your own wedding," she asked. "It's obnoxious!"

Jennifer Lawrence praised Robert De Niro in a heartfelt speech as she presented him with a gong at the GLAAD Media Awards on Saturday (14May16).
The actress, who starred alongside De Niro in 2012's Silver Linings Playbook and last year's (15) Joy, presented the veteran actor with the Excellence in Media honour at the star-studded ceremony organised by GLAAD, a non-governmental media monitoring organisation founded by LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) people. As she began her speech at the New York event, Jennifer joked, "Robert De Niro is not gay, so I don't know why we're here."
The X-Men: Apocalypse star continued: "The most important thing he's taught all of us is acceptance. Bob is the kindest person I've ever met. His heart is so giving and with his own quiet strength, it's no wonder that this man and the incredible organisation that is GLAAD would come together tonight."
Taking to the stage, De Niro used his acceptance speech to take a swipe at Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump, as well as poking fun at Hollywood's diversity issue.
