Maria Sugarpova might find herself engraved on the US Open trophy.
Maria Sharapova is considering changing her name to Maria Sugarpova for the two weeks of the US Open, which begins next Monday.
According to the Telegraph, the Russian tennis ace is planning to cash in on her Sugapova line of sweets.
The 26-year-old and her management team, IMG, are understood to have asked for the name change through the Supreme Court of Florida, with the intention of reverting back to her original name once the tournament ends.

Maria Sharapova’s cover shape, so to speak, is stunning, but of course, that’s expected of one of the top tennis players in the world. In the cover photo for Shape magazine, Sharapova wears the admittedly not very practical combo of a bikini and jacket, however she does offer some practical advice on health and sport from her own life and career. The gorgeous Russian tennis player explains that she has never counted calories or gone on grueling diets to stay in shape. Instead, she attributes it all to her training regimen.
Sharapova is firmly against counting calories.
“I do weigh myself, though, to make sure I’m hydrated before matches because I sweat so much,” she says. “Water is a huge part of my diet. I have to force myself to drink it.”
The 21st ESPY Awards were held last night. Winners included LeBron James, Serena Williams, Michael Phelps and The Miami Heat. A number of celebrities from outside the sporting world made an appearance, such as Selena Gomez and Paula Patton.

The ESPYs is an ESPN network award ceremony, intended to recognise the achievements of an individual athletic or team from the world of sport. The guest list was not limited to celebrities from the world of sport as many actors and musicians attended.
