CSI star Marg Helgenberger has vowed to help her husband Alan Rosenberg however she can, following his election as head of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG).

The actor, 54, beat Morgan Fairchild and Robert Conrad to be elected president on 23 September (05) at the actors' union, which represents 100,000 actors across the US.

But Helgenberger admits that she was asleep when her husband called her from Los Angeles to share his good news with her.

She says, "He woke me up at midnight New York time. He had just found out. I am thrilled for him. We have been together close to 20 years, and I know what kind of guy he is.

"He has always helped me with lines or if I have trouble with a scene. I don't think there is anybody better for the job."

LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE star Gilbert decided to step down from her presidential post earlier this year (05) after two terms, citing rifts within the union.
