Movie great James Stewart was forced to prove he wasn't gay by bedding two hookers, according to an explosive new biography. Movie mogul LOUIS B MAYER reportedly instructed the IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE star to prove to him he wasn't a homosexual before offering him a film deal, sending the actor off to find a couple of prostitutes. The shocking claim is made by Marc Eliot in his new tome JIMMY STEWART - A BIOGRAPHY, which is set to hit bookshelves this autumn (06). Eliot claims Meyer demanded Stewart prove he wasn't gay by visiting a Hollywood brothel and bedding "at least two of those broads". The biographer claims the young Stewart was so charged by the sexual experience, it sparked a string of romances with Tinseltown's leading ladies.
One of Hollywood's most notorious womanisers, James Stewart, was presumed gay by movie bosses because he was initially so shy with girls. A new biography of the IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE star reveals the young actor was sent to a brothel on arriving in Tinseltown in 1936 and ordered to bed "at least two" prostitutes. Author Marc Eliot insists Stewart was crippled with shyness, and failed to convince MGM studio heads of his rampant heterosexuality until underlings sent to accompany the star to the whorehouse gave glowing feedback. He was since linked to a string of movie beauties including Marlene Dietrich, Loretta Young, Ginger Rogers, Lana Turner and Rita Hayworth. Stewart died in 1997. JIMMY STEWART - A BIOGRAPHY is due in shops in October (06).

Marc Eliot's book CARY GRANT: GRANT'S 'SECRET SIXTH MARRIAGE' goes a long way to blow away the North By Northwest icon's image as a heterosexual lothario, although chronologically it would have been his first marriage.
Eliot claims Grant embarked on a homosexual relationship with the rugged actor, who was known as Randy, after they met on the set of 1932 movie HOT SATURDAY, and their mutual physical attraction was immediate and strong.
