Pop star/actress Mandy Moore is urging her fans to donate money online to fund the purchase of malaria nets and help eradicate deaths from the disease in Africa.
The Saved star visited war-torn Sudan last year (09) to hand out the first of three million nets for charity Population Services International (PSI).
And she's carrying on her efforts by teaming up with the United Nations' new Nothing But Nets campaign to provide special bed covers for residents in the Central African Republic (CAR).
Moore says, "Malaria is preventable, yet it continues to kill nearly one million people every year. Insecticide-treated bed nets are one of the easiest ways to protect families from malaria-carrying mosquitoes. I'm proud to be part of this initiative to send nets and save lives, and am hopeful we can reach this goal for the Central African Republic."
And the 26 year old is calling on her Twitter.com followers to support the campaign by linking to an online donations page to pay for the nets.
In a series of posts, she writes, "I'm working with @PSIHealthyLives & @NothingButNets to keep CAR safe from malaria - join me! You can help prevent malaria deaths - send a net & save a life today!"
