Mandy Moore is to star in a new TV comedy.

The singer-and-actress will appear as a newlywed in single-camera show 'Us and Them', which explores the conflict between families and in-laws.

Mandy will play Annie who along with her husband Ben relay the story from their viewpoint.

The comedy - which was given the go-ahead after network ABC agreed to air a pilot episode - will be helmed by 'Real Steel' director Shawn Levy.

While the series will explore the problems in family life, Mandy recently revealed how her own stable background and happy marriage to Ryan Adams has made her contented and "boring".

She said: "I am boring first and foremost. I'm a boring homebody. You know what? I always like to think that I owe so much to my family. I love my parents - I have a really great, strong support system in my family and always have, and my parents sacrificed so much for me to be able to realise this dream that I had at a real young age.

"Being busy with work, certainly keeps me grounded but then also realising the lineation between working and still having a private life, a personal life for yourself. Finding that balance I think is essential in having some semblance of groundedness in your life."
