Madonna phones her newly adopted daughter Mercy James every night.

The 'Miles Away' singer won her appeal to adopt the four-year-old Malawian last Friday (12.06.09) and has since moved the toddler to a luxury lodge in the country's capital, Lilongwe, and sent a nanny and nurse to look after her.

The US pop star is already doting on her new daughter and speaks to her every day.

She reportedly told Mercy on Sunday (14.06.09): "Mommy is waiting for you across the seas."

Madonna's aides are now working on legal documents and travel papers for Mercy - whose mother died during childbirth - and she is soon expected to fly by private jet from Malawi and join Madonna's family in New York.

There she will meet her new sister, Lourdes, 12 and brothers Rocco, eight and David Banda, three - who is also adopted from Malawi.

Madonna was initially refused the right to adopt in April, on the grounds she hadn't lived in the country for 18 months prior to the adoption - usually a pre-requisite for adoptive parents.

The 50-year-old singer is due to start a European tour on July 4 which will last until the end of August. During this time Mercy is expected to stay in New York with a team of nannies.
