Madonna and Paris Hilton were the surprise winners at the annual DANCESTAR USA AWARDS in Miami, Florida on Tuesday (09MAR04).

The MATERIAL GIRL, whose last album American Life failed to impress critics, was named Best Chart Act, and hotel heiress Hilton picked up Best Celebrity DJ at the bash at the WINTER MUSIC CONFERENCE.

Big winners on the night included electronica duo The Crystal Method, who received Best Act, Best Album (International), Best Single (International), while German DJ Paul Van Dyk also garnered three gongs for Best International DJ, Best Use of Music in a US TV Commercial and Best US Event for his Central Park, New York gig last summer (03).

Moby was honoured with an Outstanding Contribution To Dance Music (US) title, and picked up Best Music DVD for 18 B-SIDES
