A top celebrity make-up artist, who has worked with Madonna, Cher and Diana Ross, has reportedly had $60,000 (£40,000)-worth of jewellery stolen from her New York apartment on Saturday (03Jul10).
Ilana Harkavi, 64, left her home on Manhattan's Upper East Side when a man, dressed as a TV repairman, arrived to replace a cable box in another apartment on the same floor as her home.
The cable technician, who has been identified as Chris Salikram, disappeared moments after arriving at his client's apartment, prompting the resident to alert the building doorman to his odd behaviour.
Police were called to the scene after Salikram was reportedly caught coming out of Harkavi's apartment, wiping down the doorknob with a white cloth before he dashed off.
He was tracked down and arrested minutes later and was charged with burglary, although no stolen items were found in his possession.
Salikram was released on Sunday (04Jul10) on $2,500 (£1,670) bail.
Harkavi, president of the Il Makiage cosmetics company, has reported a number of items missing, including three bracelets valued at $13,500 (£9,000), a $20,000 (£13,330) watch, five pairs of earrings worth $7,000 (£4,670) and two rings, estimated at $20,000 (£13,330).
