A letter written by Tupac while he was in prison in early 1995, addressed to Madonna, was published in redacted form by TMZ ahead of its auction.
Madonna grabbed headlines by revealing back in 2015 that she had briefly dated Tupac Shakur – but a new letter written by the late rapper shows that things were a lot deeper between them than people suspected, revealing that he dumped the singer because of the colour of her skin.
Sections of a previously unseen letter written to Madonna by Tupac while he was in jail in 1995 that is due to be auctioned off by Gotta Have Rock and Roll later this month, with a starting bid of $100,000, were published by TMZ on Wednesday (July 5th).

The Broadway star called the popstar a 'movie killer'.
Patti LuPone has never been one to mince her words, so when she was asked by Andy Cohen what she thought about Madonna taking on her iconic role as 'Evita', she could only be bluntly honest. Though as it turns out, Madonna has never been particularly polite to Patti anyway.

During her appearance on 'Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen', Broadway superstar Patti LePone launched a scathing verbal attack on her fellow actress who played Eva Perón in the 1996 film version of 'Evita' seventeen years after Patti won her first Tony for the stage role in 1979.

Madonna's PR team just got weird on us.
Let’s talk about the Madonna thing. Not because Madonna still has any cultural relevance per se , but because a little bit of media buzz may or may not have been the only thing her publicity team was after with the “controversial” Rebel Heart images.
If you’ve somehow managed to stay out of the loop on this one, here’s the brief. On January 2, Madonna (or a PR assistant or something) instagrammed some photo manips, depicting cultural icons like Nelson Mandela, MLK and Bob Marley (also Marilyn Monroe, but that’s not the one people are getting angry about) tied up in the same black string (“ribbon”) Madge can be seen wearing on the album cover.
Oops! Madonna didn't mean to be racist, you guys!

The singer has said her fans created the images and she was merely reposting them on social media.
The queen of controversy has struck again, as Madonna has come under fire for posting altered images of Martin Luther King Jr., Nelson Mandela and Bob Marley, among others, to promote her upcoming album, Rebel Heart.
Madonna has caused controversy again on her Instagram account
The 56 year old posted the pictures, which feature the icon’s faces covered in black ribbon, on her Instagram account. Alongside the image of Martin Luther King Madonna put the caption, “This #rebelheart had a dream!”

The Italian producer and DJ believes Madonna can win back critical and popular praise if she releases 'the right album'.
2014 may have ended on a frustrating note for Madonna with the leak of unfinished tracks from her new album, but Giorgio Moroder is predicting a “big” year for the star.
In an interview with Bang Showbiz, the influential producer and DJ believes that as long Madonna releases the right sort of album she will become “big again”. He said that he was keen to hear the new LP, entitled Rebel Heart and due for release in February 2015, and that it was good news that she was working with producer Avicii, currently one of the hottest names in pop.
Madonna's new album, which has suffered from internet leaks, can still make her "big" again

It's the second time in just over a week that the star's new album 'Rebel Heart' has been hacked by leakers.
It’s not been a very happy Christmas for Madonna, with the news that yet more tracks from her upcoming album Rebel Heart have been leaked online.
The 56 year old star had been hit with a security breach just over a week ago when a dozen songs from her thirteenth studio album, about which she hadn’t even given any details at the time, were leaked. After some outbursts and emotional pleas on Instagram, by the end of the week she had decided to release six tracks as a counter-measure.
Madonna has had tracks from her new album 'Rebel Heart' leaked for the second time in a fortnight.

Here they are, the tracks you've all been waiting for.
Madonna is coming out with a new album. No, seriously, the unofficially dethroned former queen of pop has some new stuff cooking. She gave everyone a taste this weekend with the release of six new tracks off her upcoming album.
So, were the new songs even worth the wait? How do they fare compared to Madge's previous efforts?
She dropped the songs shortly after the record was leaked – in keeping with this year’s theme – and they’re already getting some serious praise. The new songs remind us of why Madge became the original pop princess in the first place. So now the question becomes, could Rebel Heart be the career revival that we've all been waiting for for a while now? Or is Madonna once again getting caught up in elaborate production and neglecting the soul of the record?

Madge was angry after Wednesday's online leak of 'Rebel Heart', but now she's pre-empting the leakers by making part of it available for immediate purchase.
Following her outbursts on Instagram earlier in the week, Madonna has decided to hit back against the leakers by releasing six tracks from her new album Rebel Heart.
The complete tracklisting from Madge’s thirteenth full-length record, which was not due to be released until March 2015, appeared online on Wednesday (17 December) in what she insisted were unfinished demo formats. The star’s publicist Liz Rosenberg made it clear that the decision had been taken in direct response to the leak, and, while the completed album’s release date remains the same, Madonna will be released more music online on February 9th.

Madonna’s new album wasn't due out until spring 2015, but leaks have forced the singer to release six tracks early.
Last week Madonna fans got to hear a taster of the singer’s new album Rebel Heart early, after a series of unfinished demos leaked online. Now the Queen of Pop has hit back at the leakers and given fans a special treat this morning, with the release of six new songs on iTunes.

While Rebel Heart wasn't supposed to hit shelves until spring 2015, leakers released early mixes of 13 tracks onto the internet this week angering the singer. However Madonna has now retaliated by putting official versions of six songs up for sale on iTunes and other digital music retailers, effective immediately.

Piers Morgan has criticised the US government for quailing under pressure from the gun lobby. Morgan delivered an impassioned speech on the last episode of his CNN show 'Piers Morgan Live'.
Piers Morgan ended his three year run on his CNN talk show Piers Morgan Live on Friday (28th March) with a plea to the US government to change "the absurd gun laws".Morgan's show was cancelled following low ratings and possibly his involvement in the phone hacking scandal, nevertheless he left the show on a somewhat controversial note.
Morgan, ever controversial, used his final show as an opportunity to comment on the social and political implications of gun laws in the US. He referenced recent tragedies in which guns were used to kill large numbers of people which prompted criticism of gun laws in the US and worldwide.
Morgan has spent a number of years in the states over the past decade and described gun violence, such as that displayed in the Connecticut Sandy Hook massacre and the Colorado Aurora Cinema, as "a disease that infects every aspect of American life". Referencing these attacks Morgan said, as The Independent reports: "I assumed that after 70 people were shot in a movie theatre and then just a few months later 20 first-graders were murdered with an assault rifle in an elementary school, that the absurd gun laws in this country would change, but nothing has happened".

Members of the Russian punk activist group Pussy Riot have disowned their two most high-profile members, Maria Alyokhina and Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, for having forgotten about the "aspirations and ideals of [the] group." Alyokhina and Tolokonnikova, known as Masha and Nadia, were released from a 16-month prison stint in Russia after having performed their anti-Putin protest song, 'Punk Prayer,' in a Moscow cathedral in 2012.

Heavy media interest and intense human rights lobbying played a part in the women's release and has brought certain Russian freedom of speech injustices to light. On the eve of the Winter Olympic Games, currently being held in the Russian city of Sochi, the pair performed alongside Madonna at Amnesty International's Bringing Human Rights Home concert at the Barclay Center in Brooklyn last night, where the Flaming Lips, Yoko Ono, Bob Geldof, Lauryn Hill, The Fray Blondie and Imagine Dragons also contributed.

On Tuesday night, Miley Cyrus joined the scores of iconic performers to perform on MTV Unplugged. Also, Madonna was there.
For a young pop singer, performing with Madonna is practically a rite of passage and so is performing on MTV Unplugged. So it was about time Miley did it too. Madge and her younger, twerking counterpart performed together on Unplugged and it was... different. The veteran pop star earned most of her money through touring
Forbes have once again compiled their yearly list of highest earning celebrities in every possible respect and the winner for highest earning musician in 2013 is a very familiar face indeed: Madonna. The Queen of Pop came out on top despite tough competition and the fact that she didn't really create or release any new music in 2013. Call that staying power.
Madge earned big through her touring and business ventures
According to the magazine, Madge earned most of her money over the last year through touring, with her 'MDNA' tour grossing $305 million in total since it was launched, earning the singer a cool amount in the process. Her other major sources of income has been royalties, her clothing line and the launch of her new fragrance, Forbes revealed, putting her total earnings for the past 12 months at an estimated $125 million.

Though Dead, Michael Jackson Is Exceedingly Rich.
Amazingly, and four years after his death, Jackson is also earning more than any living star, surpassing the top living earner Madonna's yearly earnings by a tidy $35 million. Second place by a long way on Forbes' list was Elvis Presley whose post-mortem earnings total $55 million.

Michael Jackson tops the list once again
Michael's earnings over the last year amount to $35 million more than the top-placed living celebrity, Madonna, who Forbes estimates earned $125 million between 2012 and 2013. As reported by Forbes, this marks the "third time in the past five years" that a dead celebrity has been crowned the highest earner of the year. In a recent interview with Harper's Bazaar, the legendary pop star recalled her pre-fame years as a dancer in New York, and the terrifying incidents that nearly drove to the brink
Madonna is now the most instantly recognisable performers in the world, with a multi-decade career that has remained strong since the mid-1980's. Getting to where she is now took much more than a few talent show auditions and chance meetings however, as the singer has revealed in a moving interview with Harper's Bazaar, in which she remembered when she first moved to New York to try and make it as a dancer.
Madonna has overcome all the obstacles in her life to get to where she is now
In the November edition of the magazine, known as the 'Daring Issue,' the singer recalled how her move to the Big Apple from her native Bay City in Michigan wasn't a walk in the park. In fact, her first few years in the city were more like a nightmare, where the prospect of finding fame couldn't have been further away, as she wrote about how she was robbed on numerous occasions, held at gunpoint and was even raped whilst being held at knifepoint.

As the NFL up their game to make the rapper/singer pay for her middle finger gesture, so too has M.I.A. upped the ante in highlighting how absurd the case is
M.I.A. won't go down quietly, as she fights tooth and nail against the NFL as the corporation continues to seek compensation from the acclaimed rapper/singer for giving the camera the middle finger and mouthing "I don't give a f*ck" during the 2012 Super Bowl halftime show. The rapper claims she is being used as a scapegoat in the $1.5 million case and says that there were other things happening in the show that were just as, if not more provocative and offensive.
Maya claims that she is being used as a scapegoat
The 'Paper Planes' rapper took to YouTube to discuss the "completely ridiculous" claim for damages by the American football league, and claimed that during the show there were several cheerleaders on stage who were arguably being much more offensive and provocative. The English-Sri Lankan musician is being sued for $1.5 million for breach of contract, with the league complaining that her gesture had put in jeopardy the family-friendly marketability of the NFL brand, something that M.I.A. claims they needed no help with as her middle finger gesture doesn't come close to some of the scandals that emerge from the league.
The NFL still haven't gotten over the singer/rapper's bird flip at the 2012 Super Bowl Final half-time show
It has been well over a year since M.I.A. unceremoniously gave the camera the finger during her performance as part of Madonna's half-time show at Super Bowl XLVI and just about everyone who noticed the gesture soon forgot about it once the game got back underway. As The Hollywood Reporter revealed this week however, not everyone was quite so quick to forget. Namely, the bosses at the NFL themselves.
M.I.A. won't bow down to the NFL
As THR state, the NFL are demanding $1.5 million in damages and a public apology from the 'Paper Plane' hit-maker for extending her middle finger and seemingly mouthing "I don't give a sh*t" during her segment in Madonna's 'Give Me All Your Luvin'.' The league decided to take legal action against the English/Sri Lankan rapper/singer, born Mathangi Maya Arulpragasam, for supposedly breaching the terms of her contract and tarnishing the goodwill and reputation of the game, and after 18 months it seems as though the case hasn't gotten any further off the ground.
Madonna ruled supreme in this year's celebrity earnings list.
Madonna has surprisingly trumped the likes of Lady Gaga, Steven Spielberg and Oprah Winfrey to be named the world's top-earning celebrity for the past year.
The 55-year-old singer made an estimated $125 million thanks to her MDNA tour, clothing and fragrance lines, according to Forbes.
The magazine said it was the most money Madonna had made in a single year since it began tracking earnings in 1999.

Lady Gaga has accused Perez Hilton of stalking on Twitter. Her fans have been supportive of her allegations, perhaps too much so as the pop sensation has requested her 'Little Monsters' leave the blogger alone.
Lady GaGa has lashed out at celebrity gossip mogul Perez Hilton. The two were previously good friends and photographed together on numerous occasions. Her twitter tirade, although she hasn't named Hilton, has suggested his meddling goes deeper than just his internet website. She tweeted on the subject, writing "I will NOT handle the privately, the internet is just the surface of what the public sees. I've been quiet for a long time, not this time."

Gaga's series of tweets seem to have been prompted by her belief that Hilton is attempting to rent an apartment in her New York building. She believes this is in an attempt to "stalk" her. In a tweet (later deleted) addressed to the gossip writer, Gaga said "STAY AWAY FROM ME + MY FAMILY YOU ARE SICK TRYING TO RENT AN APARTMENT IN MY BUILDING TO STALK ME. LEAVE ME ALONE!!!" As reported by the Huffington Post, Gaga questioned her source (a fan) on whether Hilton was attempting to rent the property. Her building's management then confirmed he was in the building, although Gaga was away at the time.

The list of artists supposedly boycotting Florida because of the controversial Stand Your Ground law reads like a who’s who of modern music. Usher, Rod Stewart, Madonna, Kanye West, Rihanna, R. Kelly, Wale, Jay Z, and the Rolling Stones are all on it, but are the latter really in the boycott club?
The Stones performing in Hyde Park
A spokeswoman for the Rolling Stones, she said she was "not aware of this," according to Mother Jones, who contacted her, and actually broke the news to her. Representatives for the band in the UK added: "nobody's heard anything about this,” which suggests the band really aren’t involved in Stevie Wonder’s campaign against the Stand Your Ground Law, which is thought to have been a key factor in George Zimmerman’s acquittal in the Trayvon Martin case.
Welsh Bruce Springsteen fans have shown 'What Love Can Do' after many camped out for days and spent a small fortune for the very best spot at their hero's Millenium Stadium concert.
We reckon 1D fans or Justin Bieber fans are rabid because they're mainly hormonal young girls but Bruce Springsteen appeals to a rather different demographic who have been mirroring the obsessive antics of the tweensters. 'The Boss' will perform tonight (23 July) to 29,000 fans at a sold out show, with some making absolutely sure they didn't miss out on a front row position in the standing area of the arena.
Springsteen: A True Guitar Hero.
BBC News spoke to Warrington fan Tony Tower who admitted he'd been camped outside Millenium Stadium for five days. Mr. Tower explained his need to be at the very front: "It's all about getting under the mic - it's better to be in the pit than out of it. It's the heart of the concert." He also admitted that he'd spent more than £1,300 on tickets to see his idol and that was all OK with his wife, saying "It's not about the cost - it's about the experience. My wife tells me I can afford it." Spoken like a true fan!
In a female dominated list, Oprah is back!
Forbes have just released their 100 Most Influential Entertainers list and Oprah has made a comeback as No. 1. True, it might not be a real comeback, considering that she only dropped to No. 2 in the past two years, but this is Oprah Winfrey we’re talking about – the woman never does anything halfway, comebacks included. According to Forbes, Winfrey has had an $88 million drop in earnings between June of last year and June 2013. However, the chart makes it clear that other factors, besides earnings are also taken into consideration when creating the list.
This year Winfrey returnes to her rightful place.
And while it is unknown exactly what those factors are – marketability, social media presence and entrepreneurial decisions are thought to be among them – Winfrey’s handling of the nosedive her OWN network took in the last two years, as well as her management of the rest of her media empire, including O Magazine, a network on Sirius XM and shows by protégés like Dr Phil means that she once again fits the bill. Winfrey made $77 million last year, down significantly from $165 million for the same period last year. That’s still a lot of money though, even for the entertainment industry, and the media empress is set to increase said profits in the coming year, as her newly rebuilt OWN network is predicted to begin turning a profit by the end of 2013. This year, OWN has undergone a complete overhaul, cutting out unprofitable project and replacing them with original programming, created by Winfrey herself with the help of Tyler Perry – another Forbes 100 staple.
Guess who just cracked the billion?
The phrases “Janet Jackson billionaire” is quite an unexpected one, but there you go. The youngest performing member of the Jackson clan has apparently reached the coveted eight-figure net worth. But wait, we’ve barely heard a peep from Jackson’s camp over the past five years, what happened? Well, apparently it was in fact her super successful albums and tours that got her through the doors. Think back. Way way back. Like the 90s. Albums like Control (1986), Janet (1993) and Rhythm Nation 1814 (1989), and mores, as well as $81 million off music and publishing fees is what landed Janet in the billionaire’s club this year. So they might be sales of dated merchandise, but cold hard cash has no use-by date after all. And, of course, there are the movie roles - her roles in The Nutty Professor, The Klumps, Poetic Justice and For Colored Girls has banked her a whopping $304 million.
Some smart business choices have landed Jackson among the richest of the rich.
Now Janet Jackson can freely commit to some philanthropy or something – it’s not like she really needs the funds, what with her husband being a billionaire in his own right. The singer/actress married retail entrepreneur Wissam Al Mana in a private ceremony last year. Jackson joins celebrities like George Lucas, Steven Spielberg and Oprah Winfrey on the list. Not Madonna. We repeat, not Madonna.

'All Summer Long' singer sticks it to the man during Sunday's (May 19) performance.
This years Billboard Awards were very eventful indeed; trouble is (for the big wigs at Billboard at least), it was a memorable event for all the wrong reasons. One of the stand-out events of the night had to be Kid Rock's very tongue-in-cheek shout out to all the lip syncing artists in the audience.
As the rocker took to the stage to present an award, he first welcomed himself to the stage by asking the audience for "a shout out for all the artists lip-syncing over pre-recorded music," to which the crowd gave a hearty cheer in return. This may not be as cringe-worthy funny as Miguel's mishap or Bieber's treatment by his peers for asking to be "taken seriously," but still, it's a pretty ballsy move on Rock's behalf. The outburst didn't really sour things though, as the rocker moved swiftly on to reading out the nominees.
Kid Rock caused quite a stir

Taylor Swift, Madonna, Jennifer Lopez and Nicki Minaj among star arrivals at the 2013 Billboard Awards at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
The 2013 Billboard Music Awards looked to be one of the most celeb-filled events of the year with some of the music industry's biggest stars making their glamorous arrivals.
'22' singer Taylor Swift clutched eight accolades to her chest as she posed on the red carpet having won Top Billboard 200 Album and Top Country Album for 'Red', Top Country Song with 'We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together', Top Artist, Top Female Artist, Top Billboard 200 Artist, Top Digital Songs Artist and Top Country Artist. Carly Rae Jepsen was another young female star to land a prize winning Top Digital Song and Top Pop Song for her massive 2012 hit 'Call Me Maybe'. Queen of Pop Madonna scooped up three well deserved awards including Top Dance Album for 'MDNA', Top Dance Artist and Top Touring Artist after her controversial 'MDNA' tour which landed her amidst a handful of lawsuits. There was no sign of letting up on the controversial front either as she donned hotpants, suspenders and fishnets at the Billboard event. Top Streaming Artist, Top Rap Artist and Top Rap Album with 'Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded' went to Nicki Minaj while Top EDM Artist was none other than David Guetta who brought his wife Cathy Guetta along with him to the awards show.
Madonna went all out at the PUNK: Chaos to Couture exhibition during the Costume Institute Gala at The Metropolitan Museum Of Art in New York. She was snapped on the red carpet with her current toyboy boyfriend Brahim Zaibat and Givenchy designer Riccardo Tisci.
Star donating all the proceeds to her Ray Of Light Foundation
Madonna’s done well here, proving not just to be a pop star of almighty magnitude, but also an art dealer of some heft. This because it’s been reported that the 53 year-old has successfully managed to flog a painting for a cool $7.2 million! Nice work Madge!
Now, before we all get grumpy that this is another tale of the rich getting richer, let’s quickly jump into point out that the money will be going towards her Ray Of Light Foundation, which supports girls’ education projects in the Middle East and Asia. So a big hats off to her for that. The painting in question was by Fernand Leger, a 1921 cubist work that the singer bought in 1990 for $3.4 million. According to the BBC that wasn’t even the biggest purchase of the day at what was an extravagant auction at the world famous auction house Sotheby’s.
Les Pommes, a still life from by French artist Paul Cezanne, fetched the highest price, selling for $41.6m (£26.9m). L'Amazone, a portrait of French socialite Baroness Marguerite de Hasse de Villers by Amedeo Modigliani, went for $25.9m (£16.7m), while a Pablo Picasso sculpture of his young muse Sylvette sold for $13.6m (£8.8m). The auction bought in a total of $230 million, although it lacked the drama of last year’s event which saw Edvard Munch’s The Scream sell for a whopping $119.9 million.

Homeland actor Timotheé Chalamet should know what he's getting into, because Madonna seems like one strict potential mother-in-law.
The newest high profile celebrity romance might also hold the records for youngest celebs to be attached publicly – Timotheé Chalamet is dating Lourdes Leon. One is acting on the popular series ‘Homeland’, the other is a successful designer at 16 and the daughter of none other than Madonna herself. The pair met at the renowned LaGuardia High School of Music & Art & Performing Arts in NYC.
A source tells the New York Post it is 'common knowledge at the school that the pair are dating.' It’s debatable whether the new couple is boosting the profile of LaGuardia or the other way around. Last month Lurdes and Timotheé were featured, alongside other students at the prestigious school, New York Magazine's Reasons to Love New York issue, under the heading 'Because La Guardia High School is Still Churning Out Talent.' So they definitely look like a promising young couple.
It’s not all sunshine and roses though. Lurdes’s parents – Madge and actor and personal trainer Carlos Leon, definitely have some strict rules for their little girl and any potential boyfriends. When asked about Lourdes dating a few years ago, Leon said 'I'm dreading it... I want her to stay young forever. I'm already overprotective, so when the time comes, I will be ready to have a talk with the guy she brings through the door. He better be ready because I'll give him the run-down!'
Madonna called on the Boy Scouts to lift their controversial ban on gay people at the GLAAD Awards.
Madonna called on the Boy Scouts to lift its ban on gay members in a speech at the GLAAD Media Awards on Saturday night (March 23, 2013). Wearing a replica of the organization's uniform, the pop superstar said the scouts should "change their stupid rules," and allow gays to sign up. Her comments come shortly after Carly Rae Jepsen and Train pulled out of the organization's summer Jamboree over its discrimination. Replacements have yet to be announced.
Later in the speech, Madonna spoke about young people who take their own lives after suffering from bullying. As a mother of teenage kids, the singer said the situation is "an atrocity to me and I don't accept it." She also called on the star-studded audience to join her in a "revolution" to change the world, before smooching with gay television host Anderson Cooper after presenting him with GLAAD's 'Vito Russo' award. Cooper came out as gay last year.
Elsewhere, at the gay advocacy group's annual awards, film director Bret Ratner was honored with the Ally Award, despite joking that "rehearsing is for fags" at a press conference last year. The NBC drama 'Smash' and CBS's reality series 'The Amazing Race' also won prizes at the ceremony in New York.
Madonna wants to be a boy scout, or at least she did
Madonna showed up in typical style to the Glaad awards, sporting a boy scouts uniform, and bemoaning her lack of badges due to the fact she was never allowed in, before giving Anderson Cooper the Vito Russo Award.
"I wanted to be a Boy Scout, but they wouldn’t let me join," the singer joked. "I think that’s f---ed up. I can build a fire. I know how to pitch a tent. I have a very good sense of direction. I can rescue kittens from trees. Listen, I wanna do for the community," she added before stating: "I think I should be allowed to be allowed to be a Boy Scout. And I think they should change their stupid rules." Moving onto the state of equality, Madonna boomed: "I don't know about you, but I can't take this sh-- anymore," she said. "That is why I want to start a revolution. Are you with me? It's 2013, people. We live in America -- land of the free, home of the brave -- that's a question, not a statement." And moving on to Cooper’s award, she said:"Love thy neighbor as thyself. It's an atrocity to me, and I don't accept it," she added, talking about homophobia.

Anderson Cooper's contribution to the gay community is honored by media watchdog
"Love thy neighbor as thyself," said the singer, denouncing homophobic bullying, which can ruin lives. "It's an atrocity to me, and I don't accept it," she added, before handing the Vito Russo Award to Cooper. “I am only here tonight because I've benefited from what they and so many others have done," he said, having been openly gay since last summer, and referring to activists like Russo and Larry Kramer. He added: "being gay is certainly one of the greatest blessings" of his life, saying that "it opened my head and heart in ways that I never could have predicted." Previous winners of the award are Suze Orman, Rosie O'Donnell, Elton John and Tom Ford. The ceremony doesn’t only celebrate those who are openly gay in the media, and help make strides for equality, but it also outs the openly homophobic or closed-minded. Film director Bret Ratner received the ignoble Ally Award – not a coveted prize – after he used a derogatory word for homosexuals during a press conference surrounding the Oscars almost a year ago.

Despite being the latest ever start time for a post-Super Bowl broadcast, Sherlock Holmes drama Elementary scored a massive 20.8 million viewers on Sunday evening (7.8 rating in adults 18-49), according to Nielsen. The show, starring Lucy Liu and Jonny Lee Miller and based on the acclaimed BBC series, scored the title of highest-rated entertainment broadcast of the year.
Elementary delivered a huge 3.45 million viewers more than Alias pulled in following the Super Bowl in 2003. The fast-paced crime-drama delivered a 61% increase over its season average in viewers and a massive 160% increase in the adults 18-49 demographic. After strong reviews, CBS ordered two additional episodes to its current season, bringing the total number of episodes for series one to 24.
It has also emerged that Beyonce's well-received half-time show extravaganza scored a rating of 48.2/71 in the 8.00pm-8.30pm, which fell short of Madonna's score for her 2012 half-time show, which was mired in controversy following M.I.A's badly thought out two finger salute. According to Deadline.com, Sunday's game, between the San Francisco 49er and the Baltimore Ravens, peaked at 52.9/75 for its nail-biting final half hour.
Beyonce fans are still shouting from the rooftops about her Super Bowl half-time show on Sunday (February 3, 2013), when the R&B queen smashed out the hits and briefly reunited with her Destiny's Child band-mates Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams - she also sang live.
However, it has emerged that Beyonce's half-time show extravaganza scored just 48.2/71 in the 8.00pm-8.30pm time slot. That was down from the 48.1/72 that Madonna scored for her 2012 half-time performance, which was mired in controversy after M.I.A flipped two fingers to the camera during Give Me All Your Luvin. Though her ratings were up on Beyonce, Madonna's half-time show didn't really impress the millions watching at home, with Twitter users picking the performance apart piece-by-piece. In contrast, Beyonce received almost universal acclaim for her show, which featured a number of her greatest hits, plus a few old favourites from her Destiny's Child days, including Independent Woman and Bootylicious.
According to Deadline.com, Sunday's game, between the San Francisco 49er and the Baltimore Ravens, peaked at 52.9/75 for its nail-biting final half hour. Following the game, CBS drama Elementary averaged 12.0/24.
For those who may have forgotten about Beyonce, you should be aware that the actual game is far from the main event at the Super Bowl.
What could be called the main event this year, or at least the most hyped up will be Beyonce’s half-time show. Every entertainment outlet hasn’t stopped thumping about it, with predictions, speculation and quotes from all kinds of sources on her upcoming performance. Will the rest of Destiny’s Child be joining Bey on stage? Which songs will she perform? And, most recently, after her lipsync-ed performance at the President’s Inaugural Ball, will she do it 100% live this time? And let’s not forget the added pressure of having to promote her upcoming HBO documentary. The young mother of Blue Ivy does have a lot on her plate currently.
The powerhouse singer sure has some big shoes to fill too, considering that the last halftime show – Madonna’s performance in 2012 - drew in a record 111 million viewers across the nation. This was far more than the people who watched the actual game. Along with Justin Timberlake’s pre-game show and, of course, all of those flashy Super Bowl ads, Beyonce should provide entertainment that’s probably more worth viewing than the whole football thing (or handegg, as the internet has more aptly renamed the game).
The Super Bowl half-time entertainment shows have slowly evolved into one of the biggest deals in the entertainment industry. Get it right, get richer (you’ll already be rich, if you’re performing at the Super Bowl, these days). Get it wrong? Suffer at least 12 months of ridicule and about a fortnight of humiliation every year subsequently, as people like us dig up lists like this to remind everyone of your shame.
A good Super Bowl Halftime Show can be life-affirming. Patriotism in its finest form; live music at its glitziest and its most extravagant. Here are five of the best:

Of the many trademark dance moves that the late megastar Michael Jackson showcased to the world - the Moonwalk, the Toe Stand, the Anti-Gravity Lean - the Crotch Grab has got to be the most frequently copied by popstars everywhere. The reason? It could be that M.J. was (and still is) the biggest music icon in the world and stars will always be trying to achieve status of his calibre, it could be that it is one of the easiest of his seminal moves to learn, or it could be that it has always been controversial, critically regarded as infamous and overtly sexual, and notoriety, as celebrities know, is a sure fire way to hit headlines.
Society has reached a stage where such trifles are rarely considered shocking anymore, so why do we still find ourselves recoiling at the sight of another star copying the famous move?

Prince didn't waste any time in reigniting old feuds. Just days after releasing new material; the single 'Screwdriver', with an all-female trio, the legendary pop icon is speaking about Madonna, again.
When talking about his old relationship with Warner Brothers, Prince took the opportunity to bring Madge into it. "It was also about Madonna," he says to Billboard. "She was getting paid, but at the time we were selling more records and selling out concerts on multiple nights. It wasn't about her. This was about business." Following their frankly strange relationship, way back in 1985, and their collaboration on 1988's 'Love Song', the pair have had often aired their dirty laundry in public. "[He] was a little troll," Madge said of Prince said during a 1994 interview, "He was just sipping tea, very daintily. I have this theory about people who don't eat. They annoy me."
And on Maroon 5, who perhaps don't have the same star status as either him or Madonna, Prince has plenty to say. They included a cover of his song 'Kiss' on their latest album. "I do pay performance royalties on others' songs I perform live, but I'm not recording these songs and putting them up for sale," he says. "Why do we need to hear another cover of a song that someone else did? Art is about building a new foundation, not just laying something on top of what's already there."

Madonna really isn't a fan of smoking, and some of her fans in Santiago, Chile, had to find this out the hard way after she directed a foul-mouthed rant at a small group of smokers during her show, The Hollywood Reporter has said.
On a rain-filled Wednesday (Dec 19) evening on the stage at the open-air Estadio Nacional, Madge really wasn't having the best of days to begin with after a white umbrella she was shielding herself with inverted, drawing big laughs from the crowd. Unimpressed by this and the reaction, the singer wrapped herself in a Jedi-like hooded black coat and abruptly stopped midway through her performance of 'Human Nature.'
That wasn't it for the singer though, as things clearly weren't going right for her, when she clocked some people smoking in the open-air arena where smoking is permitted (as it is in most public places in Chile). An angry Madge yelled at the group, "There are people smoking right now. No smoking! If you're going to smoke cigarettes, I'm not doing a show. You don't care about me, I don't care about you -- all right? Are we going to play that game? I'm not kidding. I can't sing, if you smoke."

Though it’s been the most commercially successful tour of 2012, according to Billboard, Madonna’s huge global tour hasn’t been without its mishaps, with numerous reports ranging from bad sound to poor performances from the star herself, meaning that the Queen of Pop’s crown is perhaps starting to look a little like folly.
At a gig in Chile, however, she didn’t even get as far as the performance itself before things started going awry. The Sun reports that Madonna was sound checking at an outdoor arena in the capital of Santiago when she became aware of people in the venue smoking. “There are people smoking right now. No smoking!” she ranted, continuing “If you're going to smoke cigarettes, I'm not doing a show. “ She got no response though, so continued with ever increasing desperation. “You don't care about me? I don't care about you. All right? Are we going to play that game?” and then “I'm not kidding. I can't sing if you smoke.” Presumably having a full on hissy fit by this point she further fumed “If you love me then don't smoke. No smoking. You're looking right at me and smoking cigarettes, like I'm a stupid f****** idiot.”
She was an idiot. She hadn’t realized that none of them spoke English. Despite this, the show went ahead without a hitch, although there were reports that some of the fans were again dissatisfied with Madge’s performance.
Favorite Girl? Unfortunately, it was always on the cards. Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez went their separate ways this week, owing to their hectic schedules. Though the gossip suggests Justin might have his eyes on a couple of Victoria's Secret models, we can't help but think these two might be back together sooner than you think. Watch this space.
Back in the Game: It was good to see Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson back on the Twilight promotional grind this week. Both walked the red-carpet at the Breaking Dawn Part 2 premiere in Los Angeles, holding each other close for the cameras. Who said young love is dead?
Pitt Against Zombies! We here at Contactmusic.com were a little excited this week after the first trailer for World War Z, starring Brad Pitt, hit the web. Forget The Walking Dead, forget 28 Days Later, this is the flesh-eating un-dead on another level! Check it out.
An ex-fireman is facing a year in jail after being convicted today of resisting arrest outside of Madonna’s UWS building. Robert Linhart retired from the Fire Department of New York in 1998 and apparently has been spending his time since aggravating and stalking the evergreen Queen of pop. According to the New York Post, Linhart was resisting arrest after he was spotted writing love messages to the star on giant wooden boards outside her building in Central Park.
"Madonna I need you," read one sign. "Tell me yes or no," read another. "If it's yes, my dream will come true. If it's no, I will go. XXX" According to the courts, it wasn’t the fact that the messages themselves were deemed felony-worthy, it was the fact that he tried to resist arrest when officials tried to stop him continuing. "We thought that he was a little, you know, different," said juror Dr. Harry Pong, 51, adding "But that doesn't matter - he has the right to free speech.” Fellow juror Elisa Rosario furthered "I feel that his rights were violated. I don't think he did anything wrong.”
So Linhart might well feel a little aggrieved, given that the arrest he was resisting was for something that ultimately didn’t seem to be an offence. Slightly more disturbing though is the fact that he Tweets under the account name @madonna_stalker. Hmm.
So it is Beyonce's turn to lead out the fun and games at the famous Super Bowl half-time show. Quite frankly it's been a long time coming; one of the premiere pop stars of the past decade and more, the former Destiny's Child's star power has been calling out for her to get the spot at some point. However, let's not get ahead of ourselves and assume that just because she is who she is, she's going to deliver a stunning fifteen minutes. Plenty of big names have been known to fall; here are some of, what we reckon to be the worst half-time shows in Super Bowl history.
The fact that everyone was talking about M.I.A having the audacity to stick her finger up at television cameras tells you just how boring this half-time show actually was. A creaking Madonna did what she's ended up doing on most of her shows this year and sent her crowd into a stupor, with garish and brash visuals and costume not making up for an utter formulaic performance from the (former?) Queen of Pop. She should be thanking M.I.A for giving us a reason to remember it to be honest.
The Britney Spears ad for her latest perfume ‘Fantasy Twist’ has been released online. But just who does she think she is, exactly? Well, if the ad is anything to go by, she’s doing a pretty nifty job of looking like a whole host of other female stars.
One of the more obvious comparisons can be drawn with Madonna, but hey, there’s very little that a female pop star can do these days without being compared to Madonna, eh? Somewhat more surprisingly though, some of the ad’s scenes show the ‘Toxic’ singer parading up and down a hotel corridor in a peroxide bob wig, eyeliner all over the shop and a tiara perched atop her head. Remind you of anyone? Yup, Britney Spears the X Factor judge appears to be channelling her inner grunge-era Courtney Love. We’re not sure exactly why she’s employing that particular image to try and promote a lovely fresh new fragrance. After all, the grunge scene was hardly founded on principles of sweet-smelling cleanliness now, was it? Or perhaps her new perfume smells like teen spirit?
Elsewhere, Britney just found out, on the latest episode of X Factor USA, that she’ll be mentoring the ‘Teens’ category. “Are you serious? Oh my God! That is amazing,” she cooed, making out like it was the best news she’d had in her entire career. Perhaps it was…?
Guy Ritchie has proposed to his overjoyed and pregnant new fiancee Jacqui Ainsley. The British director of gritty films such as 'Snatch', 'Revolver' and 'Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels' proposed to his model girlfriend at Madeo restaurant in LA. The couple were snapped leaving the restaurant with Ainsley sporting an enormous diamond ring, that Ritchie, not-so-subtly angled purposefully toward the cameras.
Ritchie may have taken heed of friend and colleague Brad Pitt's words in a recent interview that Ritchie did with Pitt, in which the film-star said “The family is first” and “they're everything”. His now-fiancee is pregnant with Ritchie's fourth child. The couple have been together since 2010 and already have one child, 13-month-old Rafael. Ritchie's other two children are with international pop-star Madonna, Rocco (12) and their adopted son David (7).
Ritchie has never regretted his marriage to Madonna, which ended after 8 years in 2008. Metro reports him saying “I enjoyed my first marriage. It's definitely not something I regret. The experience was ultimately very positive. I love the kids that came out of it, and I could see no other route to take.”

Evidence, if it were needed, that pop will indeed eat itself, Madonna's latest album MDNA (her first studio album since 2008) is self-referential mix of her own material, in its various stages. It plays out like a lovelorn has-been recalling her glory days but always several steps away from emulating or recreating them. With 'Girl Gone Wild,' MDNA begins with Madonna reverting to her fall-back position; taunting organised religion. It sets the tone for the album, giving way into a pithy Euro-pop dance track.

It's not the easiest thing in the world to get up on stage and perform in front of people; whether it come naturally or not, there still has to be some level of nerves involved. The best thing that can happen in this situation is for the audience to absolutely love the show - so it's no surprise that Madonna (a rather accomplished performer, to it lightly) got rather upset when a member of her audience failed to participate in the show at all.
Madonna performed in Las Vegas following three dates in Los Angeles
While at a concert in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Sunday 28th May 2006, Madonna noticed that a member of the audience was sat down in the front row. Following three performances in Los Angeles, Madonna was half-way through the concert when she singled out the man in the front row and called him out on his lack of interest.

Sure, hubby puts those super-tight abs and intimidating biceps front-and-center. But he's also forced to put Madonna's acting ability up there as well, and the awful truth is that Madonna is an average actress at best. Being as naturally theatrical as she is (and that's a compliment), she excels at stagy roles, as in Evita, but when it comes to the everyday, she comes across as rather limp.

If you're tired of the ugliness surrounding the summer sport, or just need to be entertained, than you should check out A League of Their Own, now out on DVD. Like most great sports movies, League is more than just a series of dazzling feats between the lines. It features laughs, drama, and excitement... in short all of the aspects that make the sports section of the newspaper so captivating.

What the fuss is all about, I have no idea, because Evita is just another bad movie starring one of our worst actresses, Madonna. The catch is, this time she gets to sing sing sing for 2 1/2 hours -- sing until she can sing no more -- sing until your ears bleed.

Until director Lee Tamahori blasts right past a perfectly good ending, only to burn a superfluous 20 minutes on an all-action, all-gimmick epilogue that leaks suspension of disbelief like a sieve, "Die Another Day" is as stimulating and heart-rate-raising as any James Bond thriller.
It has fresh new stunts (Bond goes surfin' surfin' MI6) set to energetic renditions of the Bond theme. It has an exhilarating sword fight (things get out of hand at a fencing club) and an awesome gadget car chase across a vast frozen inlet in Iceland (Bond drives an Aston Martin V12 Vanquish with missiles, pop-up machine guns, ejector seat and invisibility). It has a slithering, credibly psychotic bad guy (Toby Stephens, "Possession") who literally never sleeps, and a henchman (Rick Yune, "The Fast and the Furious") whose face is scarred by diamonds that became embedded in his skin when Bond almost blew him up with a briefcase full of jewels and C-4.
"Die Another Day" also has a modicum of success updating the series' style (slick, kinetic cinematography with swing-perspective camera tricks works well but virtual reality sequences and rock tunes on the soundtrack do not), and it takes risks with 007's invincible image. Bond is captured in the film's requisite action-packed pre-credits sequence and his torture by North Korean interrogators is blended into the sexy title song (a throwaway rave-mix tune from Madonna).

Homogenized, sterilized and clearly revised by test-audience scoring, "The Next Best Thing" is a disingenuous, emotionally deficient comedy-drama about an earthy yoga teacher who has a baby with a gay friend after a night of booze-fueled accidental amour.
Starring mismatched Madonna and Rupert Everett as the atypical parents who decide to live as a family and raise their son together, there is a core of sincerity in the script that is lead to slaughter by the studio's desire to pat itself on the back for being edgy without losing ticket sales to the lowest common denominator crowd.
The story starts well enough, with our unusual couple commiserating over failed relationships by getting hammered on margaritas one evening, then waking up the next day in a compromising position. Next thing they know, Abbie (Madonna) is knocked up, Robert (Everett) embraces the responsible daddy role, and they move in together -- much to the amazement of friends and family.
