Macklemore and Ryan Lewis have huge plans for this year's MTV video awards on 25th August. Aside from performing and being up for six of the prestigious moon men awards, they've set their sight on the evening's biggest gong: the 'Video of the Year.'

Macklemore Is Looking Forward To Dominating The Awards.

The pair are going head-to-head with Justin Timberlake in the tussle to become the night's most awarded act with their six nominations: 'Thrift Shop' is up for 'Video of the Year,' 'Can't Hold Us' is nominated for 'Best Hip Hop Video,' 'Best Cinematography,' 'Best Direction' and 'Best Editing.' 'Same Love' could very well take 'Best Video with a Social Message' for its theme of equality and condemnation of homophobia.

Having never won an MTV VMA before, you'd think Macklemore and Lewis would be content with a comparatively modest 'Best Direction.' However, speaking to MTV, the pair have agreed that they're planning on starting with the top gong, then scooping up the rest. "I would love to win Video of the Year," Macklemore stated in an interview behind the scenes of their VMA promo. "And 'Same Love' next[...]But Video of the Year, mmm mmm," he said slapping his knee, "Get the grandkids. C'mon! Sit down, Johann. Let me tell ya somethin'."

It Would Mean A Lot To Ryan Lewis To Win 'Best Song With A Social Message.'

Both artists take a strong stance against LGBT discrimination, having penned 'Same Love' in response to the still-widespread homophobia. "'Same Love' I feel like I want to win as a song," Ryan Lewis said. "It's the most meaningful. It's the most important." The pair will perform alongside Kanye West, Justin Timberlake, Jessie J and One Direction at the upcoming ceremony.

For artists who have truly taken off into the stratosphere this past year, having being unsigned acts as recently as 2012, you'd predict there would be much bigger things to come than the music channel's astronaut-shaped award. Mack's declaration shows that not only are they humble as an act, they want to leave a legacy for the grandchildren - not even born yet - to marvel at.

The MTV VMAs will be aired on Sunday 25th August at 9pm.
