Veteran Latina actress Lupe Ontiveros has died at the age of 69.
The star, who played convicted killer Yolanda Saldivar in the 1997 biopic Selena, passed away in Los Angeles on Thursday evening (26Jul12) after reportedly losing her battle with liver cancer.
Ontiveros' Selena co-star Jacob Vargas paid tribute to the late star in a post on his Twitter.com page, writing, "My friend Lupe Ontiveros just passed away. May you rest in peace. Thank you for your great contribution to film and TV. You will be missed."
The actress racked up a number of credits in Hollywood films, including As Good as It Gets and Real Women Have Curves, and most often portrayed a maid.
She also appeared in The Goonies, as well as episodes of U.S. sitcom Punky Brewster, Who's the Boss? and Charlie's Angels.
More recently, she played Juanita 'Mama' Solis in Desperate Housewives.
