Dracula Untold Director Gary Shore Brainstorms Sequel At New York Comic-Con

Luke Evans

So apparently, there’s a Dracula Untold sequel in the works. Director Gary Shore allegedly spilled some details on the possible follow-up to his 2014 flop at New York City Comic-Con. To tie in with the vampire theme, I’ll use a Buffy reference: does anybody even notice? Does anybody even care?

Dracula Untold
Dracula Untold 2: It's possible, but does the world really need it?

Anyway, let’s talk about it. According to Hollywood Hills, a sequel is yet to be greenlit by Universal/Legendary Pictures. But the plot of the original (I use that term loosely) Dracula Untold certainly lends itself to a sequel. The plot of the potential, completely hypothetical (wink) movie could cover a period of time between the 1460s and the present day.

With a 17% top critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes, it's safe to say reviews have drained whatever life was left in Dracula Untold. Yet audiences still seem to be enjoying the film which attempts to show a more heroic side to the much maligned monster.

Middle Earth Is Ravaged By War In 'The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies' [Trailer + Pictures]

Martin Freeman Ian McKellen Peter Jackson Orlando Bloom Evangeline Lilly Luke Evans Andy Serkis Benedict Cumberbatch

As promised by the release of Smaug from Eribor, war has descended upon Middle Earth and threatens to strip landscape of peace, serenity and beauty. The Hobbit: The Battle of The Five Armies finally has its first full trailer.

Martin Freeman as Bilbo BagginsMartin Freeman looks on with dispair in The Hobbit: The Battle of The Five Armies

In this trailer, a despondent Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) speaks solemnly of what he’ll remember of his incredible journey to Eribor and the consequences of his actions. "One day I'll remember. Remember everything that happened here - the good, the bad, those who survived and those that did not.”

The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies - Teaser Trailer

Bilbo Baggins, Gandalf and the mini-army of dwarves led by Thorin are facing an evermore deadly path in their pursuit of the Lonely Mountain and its mound of treasure which was stolen from the dwarves some time ago by the fiercesome dragon Smaug. Their attempt to slay him has failed, instead unleashing further horrors upon themselves. Angering the dragon has only made things worse with him now determined to murder every creature that lies in its path, demolishing a neighbouring village with little more than a breath. Gandalf remains captured and tensions are ever rising between not only friends, but elves, dwarves, orcs and goblins and it's clear that the  deadliest, brutalist war for thousands of years is well on its way.

'Dracula Untold' Promises To Revive Our Post 'Twilight' Hopes Of Vampires As Misunderstood Yet Bloodthirsty

Luke Evans Charles Dance Dominic Cooper Samantha Barks Sarah Gadon Charlie Cox

It's fair to say anyone past the age of 14 is fed up with vampires or at least of the overly sympathetic versions we are bombarded with in Twilight. We all miss the good old days when vampires were naughty, vicious and decadent creatures as opposed to floppy haired 'vegetarian' romantics. So if you're longing for the days of Lestat, searching for the sharp wit of Spike or simply want to see Gary Oldman's shadow mischievously revealing his inner thoughts, then the upcoming film Dracula Untold may be for you.

Dracula Untold
Lee Evans stars in Dracula Untold as Vlad Tepes.

Dracula Untold follows the character Bram Stoker's Dracula is based on, Vlad III, and attempts to create a link between the medieval Romanian ruler and the fictional monster we've come to know and love. In the film we are set to see Vlad strike up a bargain with an unusual fanged creature (yes, it's most definitely a vampire) that lives high on a deserted mountain in order to protect his family and people from the machinations of Sultan Mehmed II. Complete with billowing red cape, the trailer suggests Dracula Untold may be an historical epic crossed with a graphic novel à la 300.

'Dracula Untold': Think You Know The Dark Legend? Think Again.

Luke Evans Dominic Cooper

The trailer has been released for upcoming horror-drama, Dracula Untold, ahead of the movie's autumn release. As the title might suggest, the Gary Shore movie finds a new angle on the classic folk tale and tells the story of the notorious Dracula's origins from Romanian royalty to fered creature of the night.

Vlad III Tepes is the Prince of Wallachia and a warrior with a fearsome reputation. Thought of by many as a hero with the ability to defeat armies of men, and by others as a powerful and often cruel adversary, Vlad is facing a huge challenge. Sultan Mehmed II is preparing for battle and he needs a thousand young boys to join his army, and thus Vlad's son is being dragged into the conflict. Determined to protect his family, he sets out to find a way to protect his people single-handedly, so that no children must face the dangers of war. It's then he comes across a dark beast with the power to transform him, and he becomes Dracula; an immortal, blood-drinking demon with the ability to morph into a bat and defend whole cities of civilians. Unfortunately, few are welcoming of his new form and it seems that even those he is striving to protect will turn against him.

The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug Review

Excellent

With wittier action and a few more sharply defined characters, this second episode in Peter Jackson's trilogy is more engaging than the somewhat over-packed An Unexpected Journey. Once again, the key to enjoying the film is to distance it from the beloved novel: this is a big adventure movie as opposed to Tolkien's light-hearted romp. And that's not necessarily a bad thing.

There isn't much actual plot, as we are between the set-up and conclusion, so the film consists of a series of set-pieces as Bilbo (Freeman) and his band of dwarves continue their journey to reclaim the dwarf throne in the Lonely Mountain. Gandalf (McKellen) heads off to confront the shifty, shadowy Necromancer (Cumberbatch), while Bilbo and crew head into the creepy Mirkwood, where they confront gigantic spiders before being captured by wood-elves. This is where they meet Legolas (Bloom), whose feisty sidekick Tauriel (Lilly) falls for sexy dwarf Kili (Turner) as they continue their journey to Lake-town. There they get help from Bard (Evans) as they launch their final assault on the mountain, where the dragon Smaug (also Cumberbatch) is napping on the dwarves' vast treasure.

Jackson directs with a spark of energy and humour that holds our attention even when things begin to look a little too digitally animated (basic laws of physics apparently don't apply in Middle Earth). And each sequence also provides some depth of character, especially in the overall journey of Bilbo, nicely played by Freeman as a guy who is only just discovering his own ingenuity and bravery. By contrast, McKellen's plot is much darker as he faces off against unnerving evil. As in the first film, the other strong character is Thorin (Armitage), the heir to the dwarf throne grappling with the idea of a return to power.

Last night (December 3) saw the premiere for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug at Los Angeles’ Chinese Theater. While the final Hobbit film wrapped filming back in summer, the production team and cast, including Martin Freeman, Benedict Cumberbatch, Orlando Bloom, director Peter Jackson and many others, will still have plenty of chances to catch up at premieres and promotional events leading up to the film’s release. They clearly enjoyed doing so last night, if photos from the premiere are any indication.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug - International Trailer

Bilbo Baggins has narrowly escaped several deadly confrontations with the likes of trolls, stone giants and countless orcs alongside his faithful wizard partner Gandalf and the hardy Dwarves of Erebor as they passed through the treacherous Misty Mountains. Their quest to retrieve the dwarves' vast pile of treasure and the land that they once called their home is at a peak as they reach the Lonely Mountain. Guarded by a colossal dragon named Smaug, the Lonely Mountain proves to be even more perilous than where they had just been and armed only with elven swords and Bilbo's Ring, they must make the ultimate defeat while fighting giant spiders and more goblins along the way. More threats face them in the form of untrustworthy elves with intelligence that far surpasses any of the travellers' put together, and their chances of survival are becoming very slim indeed.

'The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug' is the second instalment of 'The Hobbit' movie trilogy directed by Peter Jackson ('King Kong', 'The Lovely Bones', 'The Lord of the Rings') and based on the novel by JRR Tolkien. Screenwriters Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens and Guillermo del Toro make their return as do much of the previous cast alongside some new faces. It is due to be released in the UK on December 13th 2013.

The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug Trailer: Here's Benedict Cumberbatch! [Trailers And Pictures]

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug Trailer is finally here, and with it, the first look at Benedict Cumberbatch's big scaly fire breathing dragon. The British actor voices Smaug in the second of Peter Jackson's trilogy, which appears for a couple of seconds at the end of the new trailer - however, we still haven't heard the beast's voice and really hope he utters something in the actual movie, or it could be a miserable pay-packet for our Benedict.

Mainly, it's the old characters that have been called upon to hype the latest film, with the dwarves playing a prominent role in the trailer and Bilbo looking a bit bewildered as usual. However, we are treated to the return of Orlando Bloom's Legolas - who literally slides into the trilogy - and Luke Evans' Bard the Bowman. The latter had a minor role in the previous film though is believed to be crucial to The Desolation of Smaug and There And Back Again. According to Yahoo Moves, the Bowman is tasked with stopping the terrifying dragon after warning the dwarves, "If you awaken that beast you will destroy us all."

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug Trailer

Bilbo Baggins, Gandalf and their company thirteen dwarves have managed to leave the Misty Mountains almost unscathed after a series of death-defying encounters with trolls, stone giants, goblins and orcs. Armed with the One Ring and an array of elven forged swords, Bilbo must now set out to help retrieve the mountain of treasure that once belonged to the dwarves under the Lonely Mountain that was usurped by the dragon Smaug. Unfortunately, it proves less then straight-forward as more threats lie in their way from giant spiders and yet more goblins to unforgiving elves and waterfalls. However, as they approach the dragon, they begin to feel that all their other deadly ventures were just the tip of the iceberg.

'The Hobbit' returns with the second part of the movie trilogy 'The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug' which sees the return of director Peter Jackson ('King Kong', 'The Lovely Bones', 'The Lord of the Rings') following part one, 'An Unexpected Journey'. Writers Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens and Guillermo del Toro are also back, along with last year's star cast and many new faces. Based on the novel by J.R.R. Tolkien, this new fantasy adventure film is set to hit cinemas this winter on December 13th 2013.

Luke Evans Chosen For Lead Role In 'The Crow' Remake

Luke Evans

Luke Evans has been chosen to take on the lead role in the upcoming reboot of The Crow, Deadline revealed this weekend. The Welsh actor's stock is currently on the rise at quite a speedy rate, having also been cast as the lead in Dracula Year Zero, and will also play the villain in Fast & Furious 6 and Bard the Bowman in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.

Tom Hiddleston and, most recently, Alexander Skarsgard have long been considered for the part, as has James McAvoy, but the relatively still-unknown Evans has managed to pip his competitors to the prize in what might be a career maker for the young star. Evans previously starred as Zeus in Immortals and as Apollo in Clash of the Titans.

The Hobbit's Luke Evans To Play Dracula - What Else Can This Guy Do!?

Luke Evans Peter Jackson

Luke Evans is quickly moving from rising star to, well… star. He’s been a Greek god in The Immortals, and again in Clash of The Titans. He’s been a heroic police man and one of the Three Musketeers.

Now he’s set to play the legendary character of Dracula in Universal’s upcoming reboot. Originally titled Dracula Year Zero, the project has been in doubt for some time; sometimes it’s going ahead, other times it’s been canned. But the announcement of the casting of the film’s lead should be the confirmation fans were looking for. Michael De Luca is producing the project, which quietly has been greenlighted and hopes to start shooting later this year. Gary Shore is making his directorial debut on the picture. Universal is already the home of the most prominent cinematic visions of Dracula. And in Evans, Universal are in familiar territory. The welsh star plays the villain in their Fast & Furious 6 movie. Familiar, too, are big budget films for Evans. He’s also due to play Bard the Bowman in the upcoming installments of Peter Jackson’s Hobbit movies.

The next Hobbit film, again helmed by Jackson and again starring Martin Freeman, is called The Desolation of Smaug and is heading for a Christmas release this year. The first film, An Unexpected Journey, received a mixed reaction from the critics, but performed well financially.

Dominic, Brian and Mia maybe $100 million richer following their daring heist at the expense of crime lord Hernan Reyes in Rio de Janeiro, but their lives have been left somewhat ruptured by the fact that they cannot return home despite DSS agent Luke Hobbs letting them go after they saved his life. However, they are given a chance to be pardoned in full when Hobbs enlists them and their team to help him take down a group of deadly mercenary drivers with their own formidable street racing skills. Things aren't as simple as that though, especially when Dom discovers that his former love Letty who he believed to be dead makes a return as the brutal and self-serving assistant of the criminal kingpin behind the organisation. Will the Fast and Furious team succeed in the dangerous mission with their lives and their chance to go home hanging in the balance?

Following the events of the Fast franchise's fifth instalment 'Fast Five', our favourite street racers are back with the upcoming 'Fast & Furious 6'. With a full all-star cast return, the movie looks set to be a hit following the trailer's debut at the Super Bowl XLVII. It has been directed by Justin Lin ('Annapolis') and written by Chris Morgan ('Cellular', 'Wanted') of the last three instalments and is scheduled to be released in the UK on May 24th 2013.

Starring: Dwayne Johnson, Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Luke Evans, Gina Carano, Elsa Pataky, Sung Kang, Gal Gadot, Elsa Pataky, Sung Kang, Gal Gadot, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Joe Taslim, Rowena Diamond, Kim Kold,
