Opera superstar Luciano Pavarotti quietly underwent surgery on his neck in New York City over the weekend (19/20MAR05).

Pavarotti was admitted to Lenox Hill Hospital on 19 March (05) for surgery to repair two vertebrae and was discharged two days later, according to his spokesperson TERRI ROBSON.

The star is now preparing to fly back to his home in Italy as he gets ready to resume his farewell tour.

Robson says, "The procedure was a routine and regular operation, and the doctors are delighted with Luciano's fast recovery.

"He is currently rehearsing with his conductor, LEONE MAGIERA, every day."

The 69-year-old tenor has been at his New York apartment with his wife, NICOLETTA, and daughter, Alice. He's scheduled to continue his tour with a concert on 2 April (05) in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Pavarotti's tour will end with a grand finale in New York next year (05).
