A documentary about penguins has become the most successful French movie ever at the US box-office, raking in $66.8 million (GBP36.6 million) since it hit screens in June (05).

Luc Jacquet's THE MARCH OF THE PENGUINS - originally titled LA MARCHE DE L'EMPEREUR - has proved such a hit in America, it is tipped as a contender for the Best Foreign Language film at the 2006 Academy Awards.

The movie, which is the second most successful documentary in the US after Michael Moore's FAHRENHEIT 9/11, has been reworked for American audiences with a narration by veteran actor Morgan Freeman.
