One Direction have been named the Best UK/Ireland Act for the MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs).
The 'Live While We're Young' hitmakers have been voted the public's favourite British act for the forthcoming awards and will now compete against other European artists for a chance to feature in the Worldwide Act category.
Band member Louis Tomlinson said: ''We're so happy and incredibly honoured to have won this. Once again our amazing fans have done us proud - thanks so much as always to you all!''
The representative for Europe will be announced on October 30 along with the winners from Latin America, North America, Asia Pacific and Africa/India/Middle East.
The winner of the best Worldwide Act will be announced at the 19th annual awards show, hosted by supermodel Heidi Klum.
Rihanna and Taylor Swift topped the list of nominees at the annual ceremony with six and five nods respectively, while Katy Perry and Justin Bieber have four each.
Lady GaGa, Lana Del Rey, Nicki Minaj, Carly Rae Jepsen, fun., Jay Z and Kanye West have three nominations, whereas Green Day, Gotye, Pitbull, Flo Rida, Rita Ora, Muse, Arctic Monkeys, Jack White and One Direction are up for two gongs.
The awards show will be broadcast live from Frankfurt's Festhalle on Sunday November 11 on worldwide MTV channels.
