American blues star Lou Rawls has vowed to fight for his life after revealing he is being treated for lung cancer.
The 70-year-old singer insisted he would beat the disease during an interview at Los Angeles Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where he is being treated - but his estranged wife NINA told a marriage annulment hearing yesterday (15DEC05) the cancer has spread to his brain and he is not expected to live long.
From his hospital bed, Rawls said, "Don't count me out, brother. There's been many people who have been diagnosed with this kind of thing, and they're still jumping and pumping."
Despite the DEAD END STREET hitmaker's optimism, Nina told the hearing yesterday, "By his doctor's admission, he is not expected to live much more."
Arizona-based Rawls is attempting to end his two year marriage to Nina, claiming there is hundred of thousands of dollars worth of his assets she has "absconded with".
Nina insists she transferred $350,000 (GBP195,000) in an account to prevent one of Rawls' adult daughters from claiming the money.
