LA BAMBA star Lou Diamond Phillips is heading to the Philippines to lobby for the island's World War II veterans who have never received benefits from the United States.

Phillips, who was born on a Philippine naval base, will make the trek at the end of the month (AUG03) to shoot a public service announcement with writer and producer Dean Devlin.

The actor says, "There were about 200,000 men from the Philippines who haven't been recognised. Eighty per cent of them have died, but I think they should be recognised for their contributions."
