Loretta Lynn, Martina McBride and Chely Wright are among the stars saluting country legend Kitty Wells, who died on Monday (16Jul12).
Wells, widely regarded as the first female superstar of country music, passed away aged 92 following complications from a stroke.
A host of country stars have now taken to Twitter.com to remember the Making Believe hitmaker, with Lynn hailing Wells as her inspiration.
She posted, "Kitty Wells will always be the greatest female country singer of all times. She was my hero. If I had never heard of Kitty Wells, I don't think I would have been a singer myself. I wanted to sound just like her, but as far as I am concerned, no one will ever be as great as Kitty Wells. She truly is the Queen of Country Music."
MCBride tweets, "Sad to hear of the passing of the Queen of Country, Kitty Wells," while Wright offers, "Rest in peace Kitty Wells. The Queen of Country Music. What a great lady."
Kellie Pickler adds, "We will always remember the legendary Kitty Wells. Our thoughts are with her loved ones," and Charlie Daniels writes, "A Queen died today. The true Queen of country music, the lady who set the standard for all who followed."
