LL Cool J has a financially savvy pal to thank for his fortune because he advised him to buy stocks at a time when the rapper was spending money fast.

The hitmaker is convinced he'd have thrown away millions if it wasn't for the advice of a clever friend.

LL Cool J explains, "I wasted a lot of dough when I first started making money. I would be away on trips, driving in a different part of the country, and see a car dealership.

"Instead of taking a plane home, I'd pay cash for a BMW and drive it home. I've blown hundreds of thousands of dollars - millions really.

"When a friend suggested I start investing my money in the mid '80s, I decided to buy stock. This has worked well for me."

The rapper reveals he has invested heavily in top American discount retail chain WAL-MART.
