A New York judge has ordered estranged husband-and-wife Liza Minnelli and David Gest to stop fighting and quit their "whiny garbage" as they battle each other in the courts.

Gest is suing Minnelli for $10 million (GBP5.25 million) claiming she caused him permanent head injuries by assaulting him when drunk. Minnelli is countersuing for $2 million (GBP1 million) alleging Gest stole concert money owed to her.

But JUSTICE JANE SOLOMON is unhappy with the behaviour of the pair's legal teams, who are "pointing fingers" at each other instead of allowing the case to proceed.

She told the three-strong teams on each side, "There is all this garbage, it's undignified, it's unprofessional and it will stop."

Speaking yesterday (24MAR05), the judge denied a request from Minnelli's lawyer to question Gest further, insisting three-and-a-half days of depositions were enough, saying, "There is nothing else you need from Mr. Gest, except to abuse him."
