Guitars Played By Little Jimmy Dickens Up For Sale

The 94-year-old Grand Ole Opry star passed away on 2 January (15), and nearly a year after his death, organisers of his estate have handed 18 of his instruments to Nashville institution Gruhn Guitars.

Several of the guitars also come with undated, handwritten letters from DICkens himself, in which he describes how he acquired it and other details about the guitar. Many of them have signs of repeated use, with "buckle rashes", or visible wear on the back where DICkens' belt buckles scratched off the finish.

Among the lot are special edition guitars commemorating the Grand Ole Opry and iconic Nashville venue Ryman Auditorium, as well as a custom guitar given to DICkens by Waylon Jennings, which includes a message etched on it that reads, "Jimmy, You're a Hell of a Man. - Waylon".

Brad Paisley and pregnant Carrie Underwood were among the stars who paid tribute to late country music star Little Jimmy Dickens at a memorial service in Nashville, Tennessee on Thursday (08Jan15).

The Grand Ole Opry icon died last week (02Jan15), aged 94, and he returned to the Nashville venue for one final hurrah, surrounded by his family and famous friends.

Vince Gill, Steve Wariner, Chris Young and Old Crow Medicine Show also took the stage to perform next to DICkens' coffin as part of an emotional two-hour event, which concluded the lowering of the fabled venue's curtain as the May The Bird Of Paradise Fly Up Your Nose singer's remains were carried away.

Country stars including Chely Wright, Rodney Atkins and SARA EVANS have sent their best wishes to ailing music veteran Little Jimmy Dickens as he fights ill health in hospital.

The 94-year-old singer has been under the care of doctors since Christmas Day (25Dec14) and is believed to be in a critical condition at a hospital in Tennessee.

The news has sent a shock wave across the country music community and many stars have asked fans to pray for DICkens.

Country music veteran Little Jimmy Dickens is in a critical condition at a hospital in Tennessee.

The Country Music Hall of Fame member, who turned 94 on 19 December (14), is battling an undisclosed illness, according to a statement from the Grand Ole Opry.

DICkens has been under the care of doctors since Christmas Day (25Dec14) and his family is asking fans to send their well wishes to the revered musician.

Country music legend Little Jimmy Dickens is preparing to undergo radiation treatment to treat a pre-cancerous condition on his vocal cords.

The Country Music Hall of Fame member, 92, will begin sessions from next week (begs01Jul13) and is expected to make a full recovery.

A statement from the star reads, "I can't begin to express my sincere gratitude for the thoughts and prayers that are being sent my way. My family and I appreciate the support, and I can't wait to return home to the stage of the Grand Ole Opry in one of my favorite rhinestone suits someday soon."

A Tennessee man has been arrested on suspicion of identity theft for allegedly impersonating country star Little Jimmy Dickens.

Johnny Lee Presley was taken into custody by police officers in Hendersonville on Friday (12Oct12) and booked at the Sumner County jail. He faces four counts of credit card fraud and one count of identity theft. He is due in court on 7 November (12).

DICkens, 91, reveals he was caught-out by the imposter - he tells a local NBC news station, "I couldn't believe that someone would do a thing like that... He should know that he can't continue doing that. Regardless of how smart he thinks he is there are a few people smarter than him. That's a proven fact."

Dickens Leaves Hospital After Brain Surgery

Country music legend Little Jimmy Dickens has been moved to a U.S. rehabilitation centre to recuperate following brain surgery.


The Country Music Hall of Fame member, 88, has been in a Tennessee hospital since undergoing surgery to remove a blood clot last week (13Jan09) following his diagnosis of a subdural hematoma; a form of brain injury.


He hopes to make a speedy recovery with a "short stay" in the rehab centre, according to Grand Ole Opry spokesperson Jessie Schmidt.


DICkens was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1983 and recently celebrated his 60th anniversary as a member of the Grand Ole Opry.

Country music legend Little Jimmy Dickens is recuperating in a Nashville, Tennessee hospital after undergoing brain surgery to remove a blood clot.


The Country Music Hall of Fame member, 88, was diagnosed with a subdural hematoma, and received surgery on Tuesday (13Jan09).


DICkens was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1983 and recently celebrated his 60th anniversary as a member of the Grand Ole Opry.


The singer has found fresh success through his regular musical collaborations with Brad Paisley.

Pint-sized country music legend Little Jimmy Dickens has become one of the first inductees to the West Virginia Music Hall of Fame.
DICkens joined folk singer Hazel DICkens, songwriter Billy Edd Wheeler, Bill Withers and composer George Crumb as the living inductees of the museum's first class on Friday (16Nov07).
The deceased inductees included singer Blind Alfred Reed, fiddler Clark Kessinger and country singer Molly O'Day. Hazel DICkens and Kathy Mattea were among the performers at the ceremony, which ended with all inductees performing Withers' 1972 hit Lean On Me.

Country star Little Jimmy Dickens has been rushed to hospital after falling ill with pneumonia.

The 83-year-old GRAND OLE OPRY star - a regular performer on the live country music circuit since 1948 - was reportedly taken to a Nashville, Tennessee, hospital last weekend (03/04DEC04).

Fortunately, Dickens' condition is said to be improving.
