Lisa Marie Presley began to suspect her ex-husband Michael Jackson had a drug problem just before she filed for divorce from the King of Pop in 1996.
After 18 months of marriage to the pop superstar, Presley realised Jackson wasn't always as clear and sober as he should have been and she started to put the pieces together after he collapsed onstage at a rehearsal for a TV show in late 1995.
In a candid interview with Oprah Winfrey, which aired in America on Thursday (21Oct10), the former Mrs. Michael Jackson said, "He was in the hospital... Everybody flew to the hospital - it was very confusing what was wrong because every day there was a different report and I couldn't tell what was happening: dehydration, low blood pressure, exhaustion, a virus. I couldn't really get a straight answer as to what was happening with him.
"At that point, I think I really got, from various indications... I believed that that (drug uses) was going on then.
"There were times when I would pick him up from a certain doctor's office and he would not be coherent and there was some behaviour... he would need certain things... for injections or whatever various dermatological (issues)."
And Jackson's well-documented insomnia issues had also come to light during the marriage.
Presley added, "He was like a little gnome... running around the room, because it was hard for me to sleep. A lot of times I couldn't sleep either if he wasn't sleeping... It was a bit endearing and I didn't mind it but he did have a hard time sleeping."
