Legendary jazz saxophonist ILLINOIS JACQUET has died at his New York home at the age of 81.

According to Jacquet's longtime friend DAN FRANK, he suffered a heart attack yesterday (22JUL04).

Jacquet was most famous for his solo performance on Lionel Hampton's R+B standard FLYING HOME, and performed with almost every major name in jazz and blues.

His collaborators include Louis Armstrong, Nat King Cole, DIZZY GILLESPIE, CHARLIE PARKER, JO JONES, BUDDY RICH, Ella Fitzgerald, Miles Davis and GENE KRUPA.
