Lindsay Lohan will spend at least a day in jail after being charged with seven misdemeanour crimes, for driving while under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
The 21-year-old actress was charged with drink driving, being under the influence of cocaine and reckless driving in relation to two incidents in May and July.
The Herbie Fully Loaded star escaped more serious charges after tests determined that she was not in possession of enough cocaine for felony charges to be levelled against her.
Lohan has also been ordered to serve ten days of community service and to enter an alcohol recovery programme. She must serve her jail sentence before January 2008.
The actress, who is currently undergoing treatment at a rehabilitation centre in Utah, issued a statement about her problems with drugs and alcohol.
"It is clear to me that my life has become completely unmanageable because I am addicted to alcohol and drugs."
"Recently, I relapsed and did things for which I am ashamed. I broke the law, and today I took responsibility by pleading guilty to the charges in my case," she added.
The charges against Lohan pertain to two car-related incidents. The singer was arrested after allegedly pursuing her assistant's car in a high-speed chase on July 24th.
Her assistant recently said that she feared for her life and began legal proceedings agains Lohan for assault and negligence.
Lohan was also arrested in May after she crashed her Mercedes Benz on her way back home from a party. The police found cocaine in her car at the time.
