Cole has directed a film concerning the young life of Heathcliff.
Actress, supermodel and businesswoman Lily Cole has spoken about her upcoming project to honour the Bronte sisters, defending against some strong blowback to her portrayal of ‘Wuthering Heights’ male character Heathcliff as a “violent and awful” domestic abuser.
You may remember, several months ago, that Bronte academic Nick Holland resigned from the Bronte Society when he learned of Cole’s appointment as creative partner for the society for 2018 – never mind that she had a double-first in history of art from Cambridge University.
Now, Cole has unveiled the results of her project, a film titled Balls which is an attempt to depict Heathcliff’s early life and that of his black single mother, who throws herself upon the mercy of a hospital to help raise him, but who is turned away by the hospital’s board of moralistic men on the basis of a lottery system to weed out the ‘undeserving’.

Bronte expert Nick Holland has resigned from the Bronte Society in protest at Cole's involvement.
Actress and supermodel Lily Cole has spoken out against the backlash that confronted her when she was announced as being a part of events to mark the bicentennial of Emily Bronte’s birth, describing some negative reactions as “prejudice”.
She has been named as the ‘creative partner’ for celebrations held by the Bronte Parsonage Museum in West Yorkshire later this year.
However, the 30 year old star’s involvement has triggered the resignation of Bronte expert Nick Holland from the Bronte Society, as he believes that Bronte would not approve of a model getting the role.

Celebrities gathered at the Royal Hospital Chelsea for a sneak preview of the Chelsea Flower Show on Monday (19th May). Amongst the guests were the Queen, Stephen Fry and Benedict Cumberbatch.
Following a week of sultry temperate and – for Britain – near tropical climes, the celebrities were out en masse to take in the sights at the Chelsea Flower Show on Monday (19th May).

The annual flower show, which is held at the Royal Hospital Chelsea, attracted a vast array of famous faces. The Queen made her yearly visit to the show and found herself wandering through trenches, in a garden created to commemorate the centenary of the beginning of the First World War. The ‘No Man’s Land’ garden, features a crater hole as a pond which acts as a stark reminder of the damage made to, not only the soldiers embroiled in the conflict, but the land on which they fought.
Johnny Depp, Lily Cole, Chris Pine and Tom Ford are amongst those featured in McCartney's exciting new video.
A week after Sir Paul McCartney's latest solo album, New, debuted, the brand new video for track 'Queenie Eye' premieres today (October 24, 2013). However, this isn't any old music video: the former Beatle has called on a few friends to help, with stars including Gary Barlow, Alice Eve, Kate Moss, Chris Pine, Johnny Depp, James Corden and Jeremy Irons all featured.
A Little Help From My Friends: Paul McCartney Prepared To Launch New Music Video.
The song is named after and draws inspiration from a childhood game McCartney used to play in Liverpool. "Queenie eye, queenie eye, who's got the ball? It isn't in my pocket. O-U-T spells OUT!" sang a young Macca and the same lyrics are called upon for Paul's latest, upbeat track that has been described by Q Magazine as "jaw-dropping."
There's a terrific sense of menace in this gothic dramatic thriller, which plays on the story's fantasy elements to take us into a teen girl's troubled imagination. It's beautifully shot too, with blood-soaked echoes of Carrie and The Shining in the way the unsettling nastiness is underscored with emotion. Even so, the whole moth motif never really makes much sense, other than as a clumsy metaphor for adolescence.
The events take place in a creepy, isolated girls' school, where 16-year-old Rebecca (Bolger) creates a happy subculture with her best pal Lucy (Gadon) and their party-loving friends. They merrily subvert the rules, keeping the headmistress (Parfitt) on her toes. And the hot new literature teacher Mr Davies (Speedman) gets their pulses racing. Then a new student arrives: Ernessa (Cole) is a loner who reaches out to Lucy for friendship, which upsets Rebecca because she feels like Ernessa is actually preying on her friend. So she sets out to investigate Ernessa's mysterious past, and finds it difficult to tell the difference between reality and her wild imagination.
On the surface, this is a supernatural horror film with ghostly freak-outs, monster-movie grisliness and a rising body count. But is all of this happening in Rebecca's mind? Filmmaker Harron cleverly keeps us off-balance in this sense, letting us see Rebecca's harrowing nightmares and layering her suspicions with the lesbian vampire novel the girls are studying in Mr Davies' class. Stir in hints of teen girl issues like eating disorders, petty jealousies and inappropriate male advances.

Lily Cole stars in the dark new video from New York rockers the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, with the song 'Sacrilege'
The Yeah Yeah Yeahs aren't really a band known for their exploits of the music video, but with their new single 'Sacrilege' the New Yorkers have pulled out all the stops for a bizarre, slightly disturbing story-telling video about the evils of promiscuity in a small, Christian town in rural America.
After the gorgeous Ravenna (Theron) marries and then murders a benevolent widower king, she locks his beautiful daughter Snow White (Stewart) in a tower.
All the better to continue draining the youth from the entire kingdom. But just as she prepares to take the now of-age Snow's heart, Snow escapes into the woods, and Ravenna hires huntsman Eric (Hemsworth) to find her. Of course, Eric switches sides when he finds her, joining with Snow's childhood sweetheart William (Claflin) and a gang of dwarves to end the evil queen's reign.

The Evil Queen, Ravenna, is very beautiful but very deadly. Early in her reign, she despaired over 'battles fought and lives lost' but now, she draws strength from the cries of war. Each day, she looks in her magic mirror and asks 'who is the fairest of them all?' The answer is always her.
