Many were baffled when it turned out Lily Allen didn’t want to act in Game of Thrones. Everybody wants to act in Game of Thrones, it’s Game of Thrones, people probably said. But when you listen to Allen’s reasoning behind turning down the role, you’ll probably develop some sympathy for the decision.

Lily AllenLily Allen didn't fancy what HBO had in mind

“I’ve been asked to do a Game of Thrones cameo, they asked me if I’d be interested in playing Theon’s sister, and I felt uncomfortable because I would have had to go on a horse and he would have touched me up and s***,” Allen wrote in response to a question on a Reddit AMA. “Once they told me what was entailed, I said no thanks. I would be open to doing a musical cameo like Sigur Ros, though.”

Her brother, Alfie, plays Theon Greyjoy in the smash hit HBO fantasy drama, which is delivered to the U.K by way of Sky Atlantic. The role big sis would have played – that of Yara - is is actually quite large in comparison to HBO’s description is it as a camero. Gemma Whelan, who fulfilled the part, has now appeared in six episodes.

The pair have had a chequered past by all accounts, which came to a head when Allen wrote a song based on him, his laziness and his penchant for pot. “I think he was pretty annoyed, understandably, but I didn’t know it was going to be as successful as it was at the time of writing,” Allen wrote. “And if I could take it back, I would.”
